The ANS variable stores the last result calculated and displayed. Examine the calculator looking for a key on top of which is marked ANS. If that does not exist, look for a key near which is marked on the body of the calculator ANS. In the last case, you access the last result by pressing the key sequence 2nd followed by the key that has the marking.

To enter an angle in DMS format, enter the number of degrees, 2ND [ANGLE] 1 to indicate degrees, enter the number of minutes, 2ND [ANGLE] 2 to indicate minutes, enter the number of seconds, ALPHA ["], then ENTER.

ANGLE is on the APPS key, " is on the + key.

How to convert Pressures on a TI-89?

The same way you convert any other units other than temperature, using the Units menu (2ND 3) and the -> operator (2ND MODE).

As an example, to convert 1.1 atmospheres to mm of mercury:

1.1 2ND 3 2ND Down Down Down Down Down  ENTER 2ND MODE 2ND 3 2ND Down Down Down Down Down Right Down Down Down Down Down ENTER ENTER

You should see 836. _mmHg

How to do nPr or nCr on TI-30x Solar (scientific calc.)

If you have an older version on the TI30x Solar (not TI30Xa or newer) then you must use a different key sequence for nPr/nCr.

52 [2nd][x/y] 5 [2nd][nCr] gives 2598960 (the x/y button is above the Pi symbol on my version).
8 [2nd][x/y] 3 [2nd][nPr] gives 336

This took me forever to find out, so hopefully it will help someone!

How to find area between 2 curves

Hi,
The TI84Plus has a Shade( function which allows you to represent the area you want to calculate.
The simplest syntax of the command is

Shade( lower_function, upper_function, Xleft, Xright, pattern, patern_resol) where Xleft is the left limit, Xright is the right limit, pattern is the shading pattern and pattern_resol is the resolution of the shading. Only the area where lower_function is less than upper_function is shaded. Unfortunately this command does give the value of the shaded area.

To find the area between two curves
  1. Draw the curves
  2. Find the left intersection point using [2nd][CALC][5:intersect]. Sorry I will not describe the procedure. The X value of the intersection point is stored in Ans memory.
  3. Press [2nd][QUIT] to go to main calculator screen.
  4. Store the Ans result in say A: [2nd][Ans][STO->][ALPHA] A
  5. Return to the graph by pressing [GRAPH].
  6. Find a second intersection point. Result is stored in Ans memory.
  7. Press [2nd][Quit] to return to main calculator screen
  8. Press [2nd][Ans][STO->][ALPHA] B to store the X value of the second intersection point in B.
  9. Use the CATALOG to paste the fnInt( command to calculate the integral : [2nd][CATALOG][[APLHA] F and scroll to select fnInt( and press [ENTER]
  10. To complete the command you need the identifiers Y1 and Y2.. You access the identifiers Y1 and Y2 by pressing [VARS][Y-VARS][1:Function][1:Y1] and [VARS][Y-VARS][1:Function][2:Y2]
  11. The command should appear as fnInt( Y2-Y1,A,B)
  12. Press [ENTER] to obtain your value.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Auto transmission not smooth 1st to 2nd

Admitting a lack of familiarity with your car, this is often caused by an improper adjustment of the transition point from one gear (or clutch) to another.
1st is still not disengaged when 2nd is engaging but this is normally an adjustable point.

I've also seen this caused by the use (or adding) of the wrong fluid; the beasts are fussy about that sometimes.
