I have an electric water pump American the diagram states it can be fed on both 230v or 115 v so should i include a neutral in the wiring, if am feeding it on 120v ? I did wire it with one hot and neutral and a ground but the pressure of the water is not that strong what can the problem be?

Hi Eglenni,

Here are the specs for your pump:

Thermoplastic Shallow Well Jet Pump 3/4 HP. This new revision of an "old hand" provides good pressure pumping from wells where the depth-to-water is 25' or less.

BODY CONSTRUCTION: Thermoplastic
HORSEPOWER: 3/4
MAXIMUM CAPACITY: 12 GPM
FLOW at 10' LIFT and 40 PSI: 9.7 GPM
MAX LIFT: 25'
MAXIMUM PRESSURE: 78 psi
PRESSURE SWITCH SETTING: 30/50
SUCTION PIPE SIZE: 1-1/4" NPT
DISCHARGE PIPE SIZE: 1" NPT
AMP DRAW (full load): 6.1 amps on 230v / 12.2 amps on 115v
VOLTAGE: 230v / 115v, 60 Hz
RECOMMENDED BREAKER: 15 amp on 230v / 20 amp on 115v
MAXIMUM WATER TEMPERATURE: 140 °F (60 °C)
=========================================
Note that this pump can be operated at 115 volts or 230 volts (A/C) It may have come wired for 230 volt use from the vendor.

Make sure the pump is piped correctly.

There should be a wiring diagram either on the pump or in the literature so you can check to see how the pump is wired.

MAKE SURE
you have the pump wired for 115 volt use in your case. Also make sure the wire size is #12 awg for the power wiring.
Make sure all connections are tight. If you have an amprobe (an instrument that measures electric current) you can check to see how many amps the pump is pulling when it runs.

You said your old pump was 1 HP. This Flotec pump is 3/4 horse so there could be some pump performance loss depending on the well depth and length of the piping runs.

How do I set the Waterway Champion Pump for 115 Volts? I have the same problem, just installed and it runs for a bit then shuts off. It was mentioned that the pump is usually set for 230, so how do I set...

The voltage is not optional. What voltage are you plugging the pump into?
If you are plugging it into 115, the pump must be set for 115.
If you are plugging it into 230, the pump must be set for 230.
Usually there is a wiring diagram on the label on the pump body or if you remove the end cover, there may be instructions there. There may even be a switch or terminal that states 115 volts and another that states 230 volts.

Have 2 black wires n 1 green is this 115 0r 220 volts n where do wires go l1 or l2

The TWO Black Wires are Phase and neutral and it's irrelevant which way they go on the motor, the Other is the earth and that MUST connect to the case.
Black, L1 & L2 the other green EARTH.
115 or 120 doesn't matter

Change wiring from 230v to 115v

There should be a wiring diagram on the name plate of the motor, or inside the wiring compartment or on that cover . Would be something with dots and HI , LO, and wire numbers.. or just a notation of 120 , 220 volts.
How is it wired now?

Mini Split Heat Pump wiring

Check to make sure it is single phase, should be stamped on unit. Is this wiring coming from what use to be there?

If you replaced the old unit with this one, you can trace the wires back to the breaker box. If you are Electrically inclined or you know someone who is.
Remove the panel and trace the nuetral and ground wire to the bus termination.

Some States require or use to require that the nuetral
and ground wire be tied together. 230 is 230v ,2hot and a ground.

My guess is you tie nuetral and ground together or
I wouldnt use white wire and I would disconnect
from both ends.

If you are uneasy about electricity, talk to a certified
electrician. Contact City Electrical Inspector. Dont get hurt!

My motor is wired for 230v and I need it to be 115v

It should be. Look closely at the motor nameplate and you should see a small diagram telling how to connect the motor for 115v or 230v. Most newer pumps have a small selector of some sorts. Either a plug that pulls off a couple post the include an idicator arrow for where to set the plug for either voltage, or a dial you turn to show it. Either way, you should be able to set the motor for 115 rather easily.

Hi,
Is there a coverplate where the wires come out of the pump? If so, remove the plate and there should be a wiring diagram inside.
Good Luck
