Question about Philips 170S7FS 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Waiting for automatic adjustment keep popping up every few minutes and makes it hard to work on the pc. My screen is Philips LCD 170S. I tried the 'auto' button a few times to see whether it was stuck. It varies a bit how often the message pops up. At the moment a lot. I didn't spill any liquids because I only clean the screen with a dry, special cloth. Thank very much in advance to look into my problem Irene

I'm not totally sure what you mean by a electrical contact cleaner, I assume I can use my compressed air for that?

  • irene507 May 25, 2011

Now I know what to look for. Thank you

I will buy and clean the screen next Monday as we will be busy (we have a B&B) up till then.
How can I let you know wether this was succesfull?

Hi Irene,
This kind of symptoms indicated that the keypad board (Auto button key) has a resistance due to build-up dirt and moist inside which is sensed by the processor that's why the "automatic adjustment" frequently pop up. This issue will solve by spraying an electrical contact cleaner directly to the button. The unit must take apart to do this.
If you can't take it apart yourself, I would advice you to find friends or look for a qualified technician to make the above solution.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

We, technician used electrical contact cleaner especially for cleaning the switches(button key) on tv and other appliances. Contact cleaner cleaned the contact of the switches and leaves no residue. I doubt if your compressed air can do this. Here's the features of electrical contact cleaner.

Just make a comment here and I will here to guide you. Remember you must spray it directly to the button key, the unit must take apart because spraying in the monitor alone can't penetrate the cleaner inside...

The monitor setup box and the OSD box pop up all the time making it absolutely impossible to use the monitor as I can see nothing behind these boxes. How can I remove them?

Helo Lorraine , try this , shut off your monitor and wait a while, then take out the power plug and spray contactspray on the on /off and menu and all the other switches under the screen and keep on pushing on the switches a lot of time, then wait a few hours till the spray is dry, then put in the powerplug again and swith the monitor on. Now the monitor is allright and working as it should.

Philips 170s menu keeps on popping up

Sounds like a bad controller board. Board-level repair on a monitor controller board is quite difficult and bound to fail, for a number of reasons. You can look at the part number on the controller and try to locate a replacement online. Otherwise, the switch for the menu might be bad.

If the monitor is connected to a DVI output on your computer try to connect it to the VGA to see if it's an issue with the input or if the monitor is shot. It sounds like your monitor just crapped out.

Cannot remove the brightness window that pops up on my Philips 190V monitor.

2 solutions (both worked in my case in different screens)

1 - Place a big clip (see photo) locking the [Auto] button before turning on the monitor. If you do so and the button stays pushed the menu will not appear.

2 - Unplug the monitor and pull out the [Up Arrow] button or the one that pops up the menu. A sharped knife and pliers will do. It sounds crazy but it worked in my case.

I'd recommend to try solution #1 first.

No warranties but it worked in my case.

Philips 170S LCD - OSD locked and unable to remove display from screen, unable to adjust. Locked on Brightness setting which continually drops to 0. Any thoughts on how to fix?

It kind of sounds like one ore more of the buttons are stuck. Any chance something got spilt on them? Try pushing all the buttons repeatedly to see if any feel different or stuck.

Philips 170S keeps turning on and off

Yes it is simple. If you have the expertise you'll find 5 capacitors on the power board are bulging. These are bad and need to be replaced. Most of the time your nearest Radio Shack will have the correct values. If you're comfortable opening up the monitor then you'll need to take it to a pro.

Monitor philips 170s

Maybe the brightness and contrast control is not working . If you can open you monitor cover or housing try to adjust the screen control in the back of the plyback usually the plyback is in the back end of the board monitor. there is two hole adjustment the upper one is for the screen adjustment and the lower one is for the focus try to rotate or adjust the two but be careful to touch other part of monitor specially the yoke or the picture tube.
