Your best bet in this case is to boot from the restore option and select safe mode then tell the computer to restore to a previous day prior to the update. It always creates a restore point when it installs updates.

Press the power button and hold the F10 or F8 key down, it varies by manufacturer, until it gives you that option. The computer always boots some portion of DOS and a BIOS before it starts the Windows load process, that's why you should be seeing a Dell splash screen for at least a few seconds when it starts. Typically holding the F8 or F10 key down right after the power button is pushed will load the restore/recovery menu which is stored in a different section of the hard drive. You only get a blue screen if a portion of windows has loaded.

OK, you did not say that in the original post. There is nothing wrong with the computer at all. You MUST register windows within 30 days of installation or it stops working. You have no choice in this and can normally do it only but in this case you have waited too long and must do it over teh phone somehow and it is going to take a while. It's takes forever to get past the automated computer answering system to a real person. Microsoft has by far the worst automated phone support I have ever found.

You might have some 3 party programs running in the background that's crashing your system. Let's try clean booting the system to remove 3rd party software and see if that clears up the problem. In safe mode: Follow the steps below to place your computer in "clean boot" · Click the Start orb on your Desktop · Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. · On the General tab, click Selective Startup. · Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. · Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. · Click OK. When you are prompted, click Restart. Did you get the same error message? If this does resolve the issue, then see the following Microsoft Article on "Clean boot" and the section "How to determine what is causing the problem" to determine which program or service maybe causing the issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 How to set your computer back, to boot normal: · Click the Start orb on your Desktop · In the Start Search box. Type msconfig, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. Click the General tab. · Click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK. · When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

My computer screen went completely white. I have a Dell flatscreen monitor

This issue occurs due to various reasons. However, in this case it might be due to corrupt BIOS settings. To resolve this issue I recommend you to visit the following website to download and install the BIOS Update:

===Installation Instructions ===

1. Download the BIOS update. (from Dell website)
2. Double-click the BIOS update icon, and then click NEXT.
3. Accept the license terms, and then click NEXT.
4. If an Overwrite Protection message appears, click YES TO ALL.
5. Click OK at the Windows Based BIOS Update window.
6. Click YES at the next Windows Based BIOS Update window, and then wait for the update to complete.
7. At the Windows Based BIOS Update window, click YES to restart your PC.
8. If you see the following message during the restart of your PC, continue with the remaining steps; otherwise you are done with the update.

Default BIOS settings have been loaded due to BIOS update or checksum issue.
Press to enter Setup. Otherwise, allow the PC to continue.

9. Press and hold F1 for a few seconds to open the BIOS Setup.
10. Press F5 for a few seconds, choose YES, and then press Enter to load the BIOS defaults. (Use the arrow keys to choose YES, if necessary.)
11. Press F10 for a few seconds, choose YES, and then press Enter to exit the BIOS Setup and save your changes. (Use the arrow keys to choose YES, if necessary.)
12. Press Enter to confirm the save.
13. If you see a System Settings Change message prompting you to restart your PC, click YES to restart the PC again.

Computer keeps rebooting at login page. It starts up by saying it has 3 of 3 updates and don't turn off the computer and it then goes to the login page for a split second before it reboots, How do I fix...

Hi, this is a common problem with a vista update, dont know why it does it, just does! When it tries to restart keep pressing the 'F8' button and you should get advanced boot options menu where you can get windows to try and repair itself to an earlier restore point, if the problem persists then I'm afraid you'll be looking at restoring back to original factory settings. Below is an extract from the Dell manual found at
http://book-lab.ru/pdf/DELL-INSPIRON/service_manual_for_DELL_Inspiron_1525.pdf

Restoring the Computer to the Default Factory Configuration
The Dell Factory Image Restore option allows you to restore your hard drive
back to its original factory configuration as when you first ordered it from
Dell. This option appears on Dell computers that were originally pre-installed
with Windows Vista® and does not include computers purchased through
the Express Upgrade promotion or computers that were upgraded to
Windows Vista from another version of Windows.
NOTICE: When you restore the computer to the default factory configuration, all
data on the C drive is deleted. Before performing this procedure, back up personal
files. If you do not back up personal files, the data is lost.
1 Restart the computer. To do this, click Start → → Restart.
2 As the computer restarts, press <F8> until the Advanced Boot Options
menu appears on the screen.
NOTE: You must press the <F8> key before the Windows logo appears on the
screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the
Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see
the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this
step until you see the menu on the screen.
3 Press <Down Arrow> to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced
Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
8 Select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory
condition checkbox.
9 Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

Hope this helps!

Update hp pavilion dv6000 with vista home premium

The easiest solution to this is to download a free program which applies a series of known fixes to repair Windows problems.  What this program will do in your case is repair and re-enable the Windows update side of things.  Please follow these steps:
  1. Download Dial-A-Fix from here: http://djlizard.net.nyud.net:8080/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip
  2. When it has downloaded, unzip it to a folder, and run the program.
  3. You will see a Window appear with lots of tick boxes.  Look for the section called WU/WUAU, which stands for "Windows Update/Windows Update: Automatic Update".
  4. Tick all the boxes in that section, and also the button called "Flush Software Distribution".
  5. THen click the big Go button down the bottom.
  6. After the processes have run, restart your computer.
To check if automatic updates are running, try this:
  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  2. On the properties page go to the Automatic Updates tab.
  3. Select to never check for updates and click apply.
  4. Now click on the recommend setting of checking daily and automatically installing updates and click apply again.
  5. THis will cause the automatic update service to check for updates within the next 10 minutes, even if they have been scheduled for 3am.
  6. If automatic updates are running OK you will see a yellow shield appear down the bottom right of the screen saying that it is downloading updates (that is if updates are available for your copy of Windows).
