you should put it out the window in order to function properly. the process of dehumidifying is actually like squeezing a sponge out that is full of water if you just dont put the duct out the window you are likely just dumping humidity right back into the room and accomplishing nothing but the use of power and wear and tear on your equipment. hope this helps good luck.
