Hi, please check if the OS is genuine.
If you have infected files please use the ccleaner application and check.
Run sfc /scannow in the command prompt.

If your Windows 7 OS is genuine then you can use, Windows Microsoft Essentials Antivirus software which is free and reliable.

You have anti virus program? if not or you do but can't get to it you may be looking at a complete reinstall, first try to reboot the system and press "f8" key after the bios screen and then select "last known good configuration" if that doesn't work repeat and select "safe mode" when it boots find the windows "system restore" and fallow the instructions... if that don't work you may need to take it to a reputable computer store for repair. or just reinstall. Good luck!!!

Which operating system?

The process "winlogon.exe" runs in the background.

Winlogon is a part of the Windows Login subsystem, and is necessary for user authorization and Windows activation checks. http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/proces...

Note: The winlogon.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In other cases, winlogon.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager."

Microsoft designed Windows so many small applications perform their tasks without a user knowing about it.

Normally, this will run smoothly and without flaw, but every once in a while, an issue can come up.

Winlogon.exe is an application that runs on start-up, and its primary function is to monitor the use of other applications.

Winlogon.exe typically only runs for about a minute or two when Windows first boots up, so if for some reason it is still running five or 10 minutes later, it could be infected.

Spyware and other malware would infect this application because it can manipulate other programs in Windows, causing problems.

If this is the case, the file might need to be removed.

if you want to remove this from

Open "My Computer" and select the "C:" drive.

Double click the "Windows" folder, then select "System 32." Navigate through the System 32 folder until you find "Winlogon.exe."

Click the "Winlogon.exe" file and hit "Delete."

Select "Yes" when asked if you're sure you want to remove the program.

Downloaded anti virus now it wont boot up

I hope your system was infected with a massive list of viruses which in fact modified your system files and made your system as their host. When your antivirus removed all the virus infections, it deleted the host files too which made your system unstable to work.

You can solve this by two methods:
  1. Either restore your system using a startup disk. But for this, you may require a startup disk which you have created previously.
  2. You may reinstall/ fresh install your Operating System(OS) and this may require the help of a service technician.
Hope this will solve your problems. And for future, you must be careful while scanning your system with an antivirus. Ensure that you have set "the action to be performed after detecting the threat" as"heal" and not "remove" or "delete".

I have been having nothhing but problems since being purportedly infected by the ramnit virus. I seem to have lost control of the computer at logon, since Norton 360 apparently decided that every startup...

Not your average virus, this malware injects code in legitimate files similar to the Virut virus and in many cases the infected files cannot be disinfected properly by your anti-virus. When disinfection is attempted, the files often become corrupted and the system may become unstable or irreparable. The longer Ramnit.A remains on a computer, the more files it infects and corrupts so the degree of infection can vary.

Ramnit is commonly spread via a flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection where it copies Worm:Win32/Ramnit.A with a random file name. The infection is often contracted by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. These type of sites are infested with a sm?rg?sbord of malware and a major source of system infection.

The general consensus is that Ramnit.A cannot be effectively disinfected, so your best option is to perform a full reformat as there is no guarantee this infection can be completely removed. In most instances it may have caused so much damage to your system files that it cannot be completely cleaned or repaired. In many cases the infected files cannot be deleted and anti-malware scanners cannot disinfect them properly. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to wipe the drive clean, reformat and reinstall the OS.

Sadly, this means that even trying to back up still accessible files brings with it the risk of reinfecting a new installation and also obviates the further use of any infected removable media.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Good luck axle

The only thing that comes up is a Red Cross Antivirus window, cant seem to remove it. I already have an antivirus downloaded.

Red Cross Antivirus is a rogue anti-virus program that is installed via the Fake Microsoft Security Essentials Alert Trojan. This rogue is installed via a fake Microsoft Security Essentials alert that states you are infected and then prompts you to install 1 of 5 rogues, including Red Cross Antivirus. When the program is installed it will reboot your computer and start before you see the Windows desktop. It will then scan your computer and state that there are numerous infected files found, but will state that it will not be able to clean some of them as it requires the heuristics module in order fix them. In order to activate this heuristic module you will need to first purchase the program. This is a scam, though, as none of the files it states are viruses are actually infected.
Go to TrendMicro.com and run a free online virus scan to eliminate this rogue.

Pnsfuck worm has infected computer and left blue icons all over desktop and disabled system restore and search, run functions

I had the same issue. Translating from Indonesian was not very helpful. I began by running A-Squared 4.5 FREE virus remover. This found everything that others did not. TrojanDownloader.Win 32. DElf!k, Virut!K, Crypt!K, Trojan-Banker.Win32.Barbra!K, etc. After that the icons stayed but not activating. Yesterday I tried (after months) the windows tool Clean Up Unused Desktop items. It recognized the files, put them in a folder. I renamed the folder and deleted it. Ran A-Squared again and all is well now...after several months of looking for options and translating Indo languages...pointless. So there u have it. A_Squared FREE, then Remove Unused Desktop Items. Rename file delete, A Squared again. ALL DONE AND CLEAN!!!! I will curtsy now:)

Information about virus.

The CIH virus infects executable files and is spread by executing an infected file. Since many files are executed during normal use of a computer, the CIH virus can infect many files quickly.
There are several variants of the CIH virus. Some activate every month on the 26th, while other variants activate just on April 26th or June 26th. Once the CIH virus activates, the virus attempts to erase the entire hard drive and to overwrite the system BIOS. Some machines may require a new BIOS chip to recover if overwritten by the CIH virus. CIH only affects Win95/98 machines.
More technical details about the CIH virus can be found at the following site.

When it scans and finds a virus it won't let me delete

Then if you can quarantine that in a folder. Quarantine it. If pccillin have a reporting log with its path. Then copy in a piece of paper the name and path. Then delete that in DOS mode if you are familiar with that only be sure that it is a legit viral file.

Hello,

I found these instructions for you on the Sony support site.

Solution
sp.gif sp.gif IMPORTANT:
  • Before performing a recovery, go to the Sony® eSupport Web site at http://esupport.sony.com and check your model-specific support page. Look for software and driver updates or check for knowledge base solutions that may help you solve your computer's issue.
  • This model does not require Recovery CDs. Recovery data is included on a special partition of the hard drive.
  • Do not interrupt the power during the recovery process.
  • Before performing a recovery, disconnect any external devices not supplied with the computer such as printers, network cables, cameras, or external storage devices, like hard drives or flash drives.
  • Customers who purchased the Symantec® Norton Internet Security® 2007 software from the Sony Style® store with their computer must create a Norton Account to save their product key prior to a system recovery or the software cannot be reinstalled.

NOTES:

  1. Click the Start button, then click Help and Support . NOTE: If the Help and Support link is not available on the Start menu, re-enable the link in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window.
  2. In the Windows Help and Support window, click Backup & Recovery .
  3. Under Backup & Recovery , under VAIO Recovery Center , click Launch VAIO Recovery Center .
  4. In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program , click to select the desired option:

    NOTES:
    • It is strongly recommended that recovery discs be created to help restore files if the operating system will not start. Recovery discs are bootable and can be used to perform a recovery on a properly functioning hard drive.
    • The Windows Backup and Restore option opens the Backup and Restore Center provided with the Microsoft® Windows Vista™ operating system. This provides the ability to save information from the hard drive, such as personal data files, and restore previously backed up data.
    • Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics option.
    • One or more drivers or factory-installed applications may be reinstalled with the Reinstall Programs or Drivers option.
    • The entire (C:) drive can be restored to its original, factory-installed condition by selecting Restore C: Drive .
    • Choosing Restore Complete System will restore the entire (C:) drive, while removing or restoring the Recovery Drive partition. Modifying the size of the hard drive partitions is also an option with this type of recovery. This option requires you to insert Recovery DVDs created using the Create Recovery Discs option.
    • To remove all data from the hard drive, including the operating system, all programs and personal data, choose the Wipe and Erase Data option. This option is provided for the convenience of advanced users who want to install a different operating system, and who want to ensure all data has been removed from the hard drive first. All other users are strongly urged to avoid selecting this option.

Please update me on the same.
Regards
Sammy
