There is probably just a bad connection between the usb and hard drive. Unplugging it and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work try another usb port. That usually fixes the problem.

SOURCE: In the "Unknown Device" it

Hello!

Your Operating System doesn't recognize your USB because it does not have a compatible driver for it, the best solution for that is to install the driver of your USB. And make sure also that in the BIOS settings the USB port is ENABLE, that could be the reason why your USB is not recognize. To do this or to view BIOS settings, while your computer is booting press DEL / F2 key.

Hope I was able to help.

How To Fix Error Code 43 Windows has stopped this device because it has...

If Windows Device Manager is giving a code 43, this means the hardware is reporting something wrong when trying to connect. I'd do the following (and also check the attatched link for reference ;-) )

  • Unplugging the headset, restarting the computer, then plugging the headset back in.
  • Make sure the USB connector on your headset (and the USB port you're putting it in) is undamaged, and not dirty.
  • Try connecting the headset to another USB port, and another computer to see if you're able to reproduce the issue there (if not- it may just be the USB port(s) on your computer that you're plugging the headset into that's failing.
If all else fails, it may be time to purchase a new headset ;-)

My usb device was working fine until yesterday when I plugged it in and I kept getting an Unknown device error with the following message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported...

Code 43 errors are nearly always caused by a driver issue. However, since you have tried the device in several different computers with the same result, I believe that your flash drive has gone bad or become damaged. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon problem with flash drives. Like any storage device on the computer, make sure you are backing up what is on your flash drive.

Usb device not recognize

You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.

To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.
