Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My Dlp lamp has gone bad . I have a samsung 57" tv, model number xlt5687sx/xaa. I've taken the board out and don't know how to take out or know location of lamp. Does this model have a Dlp lamp? I see an enclosure number around the lens, is lamp inside lens?

    its hlt5687sx/xaa. 57" inch .

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

I had 3 lights blinking ( 2 green, 1 red) , when I try to turn tv on. Samsung people told me that it meant my Dlp lamp is out. I can't find a lamp , only a lens. Is it the lens that's bad?

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

I see two fans , but no lamp, still looking

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

no. I searched Internet for solution from forums. I found out that hlt5687 model doesn't have a lamp. Must have technician come out. Don't have money for that, therefore , I'm going to clean fans and board area with blower, it's very dusty. Another question, though, I had my shady brother-in-law over this weekend. While everyone was outside , he was in my house near tv. He's heavy into electronics. Is there anyway he could've sabotaged my tv without me knowing? Set Ter for tv to not come back on once turned off, or sprayed something inside my tv?

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

can I replace the electrolytic capacitor myself? Don't know if that's the problem, will check. Is power supply board near the lens , fans, etc? By the way , I truly appreciate your help, thank you.

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

not at home, but I will be on this , later today. If the capacitor is okay, anything else could be problem?

  • marlondavis1 May 25, 2011

    will do, thanks

Hi,
Please double check your model no. Is that the real model no or HLT5687?

I've also tried research on your model and also found out that this model hasn't a bulb but a built-in LED. I also tried to have a copy of the service manual in my supplier online but they haven't a copy yet. Most of the symptoms with blinking light in the DLP tv is caused by faulty electrolytic capacitor in the power supply section. You may inspect the power supply board for bulged/dome at the top. This will dropped the supply voltage from normal and will disable the unit....

Also check the board for bad solder joints. Power supply is a hard working and warmest board, prone for cracked, dried and cold solder. I would advice you to work in the brightest area or used table lamp and magnifying glass because this is hard to spot. Make some re-soldering as much as possible...

Power supply board is where the power cord directly connected. Here is a sample of faulty capacitor with bulged at the top.

But not all faulty capacitor bulged/dome at the top like the dried one, it is better that you have a capacitor checker. Yes very simple fix if you found it in the board. Just replaced it with same capacitance and voltage rating which is printed in its body itself. Just remember that electrolytic capacitor has a polarity, meaning make sure that the negative/positive side will seat-in on its location before you solder it on the board.

a bad power supply is most likely cause of this. Other possible cause is bad main circuit board.

Samsung DLP HLM-617W/XAA

with lamp out (door closed) the ballast should "strike" or give an arc sound, trying to fire the lamp. If it does not do that maybe the color wheel is not spinning up - has to do that first.........then the set will try to fire the lamp
