On bootup win xp does not read hard drive... even a known good one. "cant find OS" even though it detects the drive is there in F2 I have even been able to format the HD. My question is .... Is the drive dead? Is the motherboard dead? Is it the Bios?

In Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 / 1.6 GHz processor coming with SATA Drive HDD. So, you need to Load the SATA Drivers while installing the XP.

Sounds like it might be a motherboard issue BUT the best thing to do is to put a known good working hard drive in that computer and try installing Windows from the cd. If it can't install then the motherboard is bad more then likely. You can also try swapping out memory and trying it in different slots as well. If somebody tried flashing the BIOS and the computer got shut off by accident, that can screw up a BIOS and render the computer useless.

Win XP doesn't "see" hard drive, can't install

If it is in a loop, and does not recognize the hard drive, the hard drive may have some corruption or failed sectors on it, or dead all together. To test if its dead, hit either ESC, F2 or F12 on your keyboard on the vaio screen, should launch the BIOS where you can see what storage devices it detects. If there is no hard drive it is either dead or lost connection. If it does show up there you can test for sector corruption by downloading HDD regenerator (google search) and running the scan. It will give a drive map if there is any sector damage (not mechanical failure) Any questions, let me know.

I would recommend using a boot disk and run chkdsk (windows boot disk) or fsck (linux) This will help fix bad sectors if you use the correct options. USe the "/?" in windows for help and "man fsck" in linux.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Hello, Where could I find a driver for WD5000KS SATA? I am trying to upgrade my desktop PC to Win 7 but when installing it, the setup could not detect the SATA HDD and asked me to load the HDD driver. ...

Check in your BIOS,first make sure the SATA controller is set to native mode and not RAID, and secondly that the BIOS can detect the drive, if the drive can't be detected by the BIOS then it's because the drive surpasses the boards drive size limitation.; If this is the case there is a chance a BIOS update may fix it but it's not guaranteed it will.

to make cd/dvd drive the primary one..all u gotta do is to configure the bios(press DEL/F1/F2/F10 briskly, as applicable while at the system boot, this'll enter u in the CMOS utility, search for boot Device Priority)..make cd/dvd drive the primary or 1st boot device n 2nd device @ HDD 0..

download n install any boot manager (various are available)..eg. Power quest Boot Magic..it'll b quite useful when u wanna selective startup using Multiple OS like win xp pro sp2+ubuntu..

the best is to install ubuntu first in raw/undefined hdd space next go for xp..

always better to seek professional supervision of ur System admin/vendor....

Just because the device manager says the drive is working fine doesn't mean it is. If it won't recognize the ZIP disk, either the disk itself is bad or the zip drive is bad. I would try another zip disk and see if it will read a known good zip disk.

Please help

It may be the case where you have Multiboot option with Two hard Disk on PC.

Are you not able to boot even.

Have you try to go in Safe mode (tapping the F8 key during Bootup)

Also try to change the BOOT Priority by pressing key either "DEL", "ESC", or "F2"

Let me know the result and further details, so I can move on.
