Kodak C340 Memory card Formatting

Hi, My granddaughter just bought a used Kodak easy share C340 at a garage sale it came with a 16M multimedia card which fills up fast. We purchased a Dane-elec memory card with 1 GB, it fits in the camera but doesn't work. We noticed it has a lock on it. Does that have something to do with the message we keep getting? "Memory card requires formatting. Memory card is protected, reset switch on memory card." We can't reset it, it will not let us get out of that message unless we turn the camera off.

The write protection is on the card (a little "pin").

Difficulty formatting new memory card for a Kodak Easy Share DX7440

The DX7440 works with MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. While your 4GB SDHC card fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work with this camera. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have a new memory card, a Toshiba 16GB, and my Kodak C340 says the card needs formatting. The camera will not format the card. Can formatting be done on my computer? If so, how?

The C340 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 16GB card is a SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use a MMC or SD card, which top out at 2GB.

Iam using KODAK EASY SHARE C43.When I inserted a 2GB micro SD memory card for the first time,it is saying 'Memory Card requires formatting' as usual. While clicking OK, It shows 'formatting.....' and then...

The best thing would be to borrow a laptop or PC with a card slot, and format it there.
If it continues to show error when formatting, the card is defective and should be replaced. (Returned?)
Out of 5 memory devices I have bought in last 3 years, 2 came with a free virus. This from reputable stores. Be sure PC has antivirus installed.

It is not at all unusual these days to find NEW memory devices that don't work. Production methods are cheap as they can be. Just return it for refund or exchange.

New memory card will not format

You are probably using a 4 gigabyte memory card and your camera will only support a 2 gigabyte card. Get the right card and it will format properly.
