Hello,

If you are handy, yes. The rps sensor is mounted to the motor. Remove power and tip the unit back. The motor has one bolt in the middle that holds it in place. Once the motor drops out the sensor clips off the stator motor.

First time will take you two hours or so. Not difficult time consuming though.

My Maytag 300 quite series has a code F51 what does this mean?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly The F51 code is a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) feedback error. In other words the control board is not sensing any motor rotation. It is fixable but will result in the replacement of failed parts. (Sensor or electronic control board) The control board is not cheap. Hopefully you only have a failed sensor.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Washing machine display F51 on Maytag Bravo. How do I fix it?

F51 error code

The reason could well be due to an intermittent connection at the Rotor Position Sensor, (RPS).

To correct this, remove and reinstall the connector at the RPS at least three times to clean off any corrosion built up on the connector and RPS due to the intermittent connection. Confirm that the connector is fully seated onto the RPS control upon final connection and verify there are no damaged wires.

F51 Fault

e F51 code indicates a problem with the RPS (Rotational Speed Sensor) that monitors the motor speed. This issue has been identified as relating to the the connection system between the RPS and the controller.

Whirlpool has changed the RPS connector design, providing a more reliable connection and is available as a service kit. The control has also been updated for better sensing of the RPS. Also, if you have experienced problems with certain wash loads getting tangled and knotted, there is also an update washplate intended to reduce this issue. You should contact Whirlpool for possible repair concessions related to these issues.

If you would like to get to the RPS and try cleaning it.. Here's how:

In some cases, the F51 code can be fixed by cleaning the RPS connector. The RPS is located on the motor armature underneath the machine.
1. Tilt the machine backwards, resting the console against the wall.
2. using a disposer tool or suitable hex wrench loosen the center stator screw completely (the screw is captive and will not fall out of hole).
3. The stator contains a series of strong magnets and will take some tugging and wiggling to pull off.
4. Remove the 4 bolts that secure the armature to the tub. CAREFUL this assembly is a little heavy, support well before removing last bolt.
5. The RPS is attached to the armature. Remove and insert RPS connector (the one with 6 wires) 10 times to 'wipe' the contacts providing a cleaning action.

Kenmore Oasis F51 code - already replaced RPS. Now what?

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.
