What is happening is that you have a component about to fail. as the component heats up it becomes intermitant or open. You need to take it to a repair shop

I have a Sony STR-DE135 receiver and the speakers keep cutting out. what could be the problem?

Heat, loose speaker wires, excess volume, low load impedance?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

I have the same problem. The fuse blows every time I plug the Sony STR-DE135 into the wall. I did not find the F901 at Radio Shack, so I bought a fast acting 5 Amp 125V Fuse at the Hardware store. It blew...

There is usually one or two normal clicks on power-up. A self-protection relay activates after a short delay for circuit and power stabilization plus some internal cheking for shorts and thermal issues.

If it keeps blowing fuses you are stressing it a bit more every time you feed it another one. I'd get it in to a Pro for repair.

Want to play my ipod through sony str-de135 receiver

Get a headpone to rca cable (radio shack or best buy) and use any input on the rear of the receiver except phono. You will need to turn the ipod to near max volume.

SONY STR-DE125 READS PROTECTED

protection is designed to protect the output transistors from, shorted speaker wires, shorted speakers, too low speaker impediance, make sure the amp is well ventilated.
turn the amp off for 1 to 2 hours to allow thermal reset if this fails most likley some internal damage has occured and the unit will need to be serviced

No sound out of left speaker

did the left channel work when u switched speakers, if so then the left speaker or wiring is a fault.if not then the output circuits on the amp are blown or the fuse is blown some amps have internal fuses in the output to protect the output transistors. unplug the power cord and take the cover off, look to see if u can find any fuses and check these for continuity u can hold these up to the light and u should see a fine filiment in one piece and not broken. these fuses sometimes blow just from age and use at high volume like a regular light bulb.If the fuse is blown replace with the same value else the output transistors will need to be replaced most likley along with the drivers.
