Question about Computers & Internet

Can you help me set up printer Brother DCP-J315W to the wireless network. I followed the network setup wizard until I came to setting the access point to automatic mode. I don't know where to find the access point. I've looked on the printer and the wireless modem but can't find it. Thank you

I tried to work through your instructions and got thoroughly confused. Is there not a simpler way to do this? Corrievdb

  • corrievdb May 30, 2011

I have spent hours trying to follow the instructions and still have not been able to set the wireless connection between my computer and printer. The Brother instructions suggested are for a laser printer. Mine is an inkjet. I don't know if that makes a difference. In anycase, the instructions from the eguru don't work for me. If another expert can help me, I'd much appreciate it. My printer model is Brother DCP-J315W. Thank you. Corrievdb

First make sure your computer network settings find the wireless router . On your printer press menu button then press up or down button to choose "network" then press ok. Then "setup wizard" When enable WLAN is displayed press ok to accept. Then machine is searching for available network if you can find your network ssid then select it then press ok.If you have set password security on router it will ask for password enter it . Make sure WLAN is enabled and on means active. If your router has DHCP enable then no need to set ip address on printer otherwise need to set network ip settings in printer too. Then install driver and software on your computer then check. You can also set printer settings in ad hoc mode when you start the printer your wireless computer can see ad hoc printer then you can configure it with disk which comes with printer. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,

Please check this link to view the official web page of brother printer to get information while setting up the printer through wireless network:-

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/pdf_pub/faq/faq002519/wireless_wcable_hl2170w.pdf

Also follow the bellow instruction:-

Plug your computer into your regular network and set up a command prompt by clicking "Start" and then "Run" and type"cmd." Press "Enter," and at the command prompt, type "ipconfig." In Windows 7, you can access the command prompt by clicking the "Start" button and typing "cmd" into the "Search Programs and files" field. Search through the response to the "ipconfig" command for the "Default Gateway" and write down the IP address you find there. A default gateway is usually 192.168.1.1.

Find out what IP address range your current network uses. While plugged into your current network, open an Internet browser window and type the IP of the default gateway. Log into the admin panel, and then find the DHCP settings. For example, on a Linksys router, you will find the settings under "Basic setup." Make note of the IP Address range. If the range allows 50 users and the start address is 192.168.1.100, then your last IP in the range will be 192.168.1.149.However each port on the back of the router bears either a WAN or LAN label.Without shutting down your computer, disconnect from the existing network, and then use the CAT5 network cable to connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the back of your new wireless router. Open the command prompt again, and type "ipconfig /renew." Obtain the default gateway IP and type it into a web browser address bar. Go to the "Basic Setup" screen and change the IP address of the router to something outside the existing range of your current network. Also avoid the IP address of your existing router. For example, if your IP range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149, you can set the IP of your new wireless router to 192.168.1.2. While you are on this screen, also disable "DHCP Server." Save the settings, and disconnect your computer. Also you can connect your new wireless access point to your existing network by plugging one end of a network CAT5 cable into the LAN port of your new access point and the other end into the LAN port of your existing network router.

This is how you have to set up the access point.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

    Hi,

First check if you have the following in place.

    a wireless router

    a wireless printer

    the printer driver disc

an usb cable for initial installation

Now first disconnect the wireless printer from your computer. Install the drivers and softwares first to the computer from the disc. ( Note: if you have already done it then uninstall the previous installation from control panel ).

Now connect the usb cable between the printer and computer. Allow the printer to do the initial setup. Once done disconnect the usb.

Now on the bottom right hand side check for the wireless connection. Right click and search for available wireless devices. You will see your printer there along with the router.

Note at a time you can either connect to the printer or the router . Router would be when you want to surf the internet and printer when you want to fire some print outs.

Hope that makes the procedure simple.

    Thanks

At the back of the printer there is a door normally with a latch. You slide that as far as possible and open the door and can easily pull the jammed paper out. If that doesn't work open the front panel as how you open to replace the cardrige and you will see the jammed paper and gently pull it out.

Unable init. 50 on my Brother DCP-J315w ...what should i do

Any failure to initialise, print, clean error report usually indicates the waste ink chamber is full and the purge count has maxed out. You can remove the waste ink chamber, clean and replace the pads and refit it but seriously time consuming and messy. You should try the purge count reset first (do google search) eg this one
http://ref.topictimes.com/videos/tech/how-to-reset-purge-counter-on-brother-dcp-j315w-printer-full-1NzJwuCpVOc.html

If that works, you can keep using it but should clean the waste chamber. Or save the hassle and just buy a new machine :-)

Brother MFC-7840w wireless printer won't connect to network. I have searched a ton of solutions on the web and have had no luck. I have several devices connected to my wireless network, but just...

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on your computer and your router

Make certain that you have the latest drivers from Brother by clicking on the following link: Brother Driver Downloads

Open Control Panel and click on 'Diagnose Connection Problems' and follow the instructions.

The last choice is to use the Setup Wizard. It seldom works for me but you might more luck than poor me. Here are the instructions:

The Connect to the Internet wizard will guide you through the steps of setting up an Internet connection.

Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by:

• Clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button
• Click on Control Panel.
• In the search box, type network,
• Click "Network and Sharing Center"
• Click Set up a new connection or network
• Then double-click "Connect to the Internet".

This should have you up and running.

All the best

Ben

MFC-7840W Printer: need tp set the wireless setting, lost the instruc...

To setup your Brother MFC-7840W on a wireless network do the following:

Press Menu.

Scroll down to #5 LAN and hit OK

In the LAN submenu, scroll down to 2. WLAN and hit OK.

In the WLAN submenu select 2. Setup Wizard.
(The printer will search for the SSID of your network. If you are presented with multiple networks, select yours and hit OK.)

Depending whether you have setup a network key on your wireless network, you will have to choose the type of connection. Your options will be Open System, Shared key, and WPA/WPA2-PSK.

If you have a Shared Key or WPA/WPA2-PSK network, then you willhave to enter the key to connect. Open Key does not use a key to connect.

So for instance, if you selected WPA2-PSK you will then be asked to enter your passphrase key to connect to your wireless network.

How do I have the printer recognize the router so I can print from my laptop from another room please? I have a C27250

Hi,

Make a wireless connection between an HP all-in-one with built-in wireless networking capability and a functional wireless network with an access point (router) that is SecureEZSetup enabled.

Connecting the unit to the computer
  1. Activate SecureEzSetup on the access point (router). Usually this is accomplished by pressing a button on the access point. Refer to the router or access point documentation for specific instructions.
  2. Press the Setup button on the all-in-one.
  3. Press the arrow buttons until Network displays and then press OK . The Network menu displays.
  4. Press the arrow buttons until Wireless Setup Wizard displays and then press OK .
  5. Follow the instructions in the Wireless Setup Wizard.
  6. After the all-in-one connects to the network, install the product software on the computer.

Regards,
Rizwan
