Hi,

Good day. Usually cable internet providers provide customers with cable modem or gateway, those are the black box with lights usually connect to the wall outlet by a coaxial cable. The IP address is located under the modem or you can check it on your pc.

If your using windows:

> Click on Start
> Click All Programs
> Choose Accessories
> Right Click on "Command Prompt" and choose run a administrator
> Then you'll see a black screen with a blinking cursor
> Just type the word "ipconfig /all"
> Then press Enter
> Then it will show you the IP ADDRESS and other data you need for your router

You can also contact you cable internet provider's tech support number so that they can help you looking for those data as well. Hope this information help you. Have a great day. Thanks for visiting Fixya.

I have a newer newer belkin router but i hope you can still help me out, okay when i try to play a game on xbox live it won't let me because it says my NAT rating is closed, how do i set it to open?

Hello your Belkin Routers has a Firewall Feature on it which might be blocking you to Play games on your Xbox.

To Solve this Issue you Just have to open Ports on the Router For your Routers Ip Address or Enable DMZ ( De-militarized zone). Which will Open all the Ports on the router for an Ip address.

---> Steps to Enable DMZ on the Belkin Router

- Connect your Computer to the Router using an Ethernet Cable.

- Open Internet Browser & Goto 192.168.2.1 it will take you to Router Setup Page

- Towards your Left Pane Click DMZ Under Firewall

- Leave the Password Box Blank & Click Submit

styli_0.jpg

- Check the Enable Box

- In the Private Ip Box Type in any Numbers in range of 2 - 254. EG: 192.168.2.9

- Click Apply Changes

- Unplug the Power Cable From the Router & Plug it back After 15 seconds

> Now Let us Assign the Ip Address on your Xbox

- In the Xbox Dashboard

- Go to My Xbox and Open System Settings

- Select Network Settings, Configure Network.

- On the Basic Settings tab, select IP Settings, then select Manual.

- Select IP Address, enter your chosen IP address EG: 192.168.2.9, and select Done.
- Select Subnet Mask, enter the Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and select Done.

- Select Gateway, enter the Default gateway 192.168.2.1, and select Done.

- Select Done to save your settings.

- Go Ahead & Test your Connection.

Im trying to set this up as an access point. but it will not fine a ip from the router

Most router wont act as a DHCP client (Get an IP address) on their own.

You need to go into the Belkin setup and set it to an IP address in the range of your other router.

For example:
If your PC is getting (connected to the same network) an IP address of 192.168.0.3 IP and a Default Gateway address of 192.168.0.1 you can set the Belkin with any adderss between 192.168.0.10 & 192.168.0.254. Changing the last octet (set of numbers after the 3rd period) to the desired address.

Hello...

Steps To Convert your Belkin Router as an Access Point.

- Connect your D - Link Router to your PC & Check the Default Gateway It Might Be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

( Finding Default Gateway: Right Click on Local Area Connection & click on Status - Click on Details For Win 7 & Win Vista & For Win Xp - Right Click on Local Area Connection & Click on Status, Select Support Tab & Click on Details )

- Now Connect the Belkin router to your Com .. Open Internet Browser & Go to 192.168.2.1

- Towards your Left Corner Under Wireless Clink on Use as Access Point

- It will Prompt you For a Password Leave it Blank & Click on Submit

- Select the Radio Button Next to Enable

- In Specify IP Address Type in IP Address in Range of your D - Link Router Eg: 192.168.0.254

- Select Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

- Click on Apply Changes

- Now Open the Router Setup Page Using the Ip Address which you gave EG: 192.168.0.254

- Connect an Ethernet cable From your D - Link Router to Any 1 of the Wired Slots on the Router ( Note: We are using Wired Slot as we have Disabled the NAT on the Belkin Router It Gives you IP Address From your D - Link Router & the DHCP on the Belkin Router is Turned Off)

- Power cycle the D- Link Router & Belkin Router For 15 Seconds Each ( Unplug the Power cable & Plug it Back After 15 Seconds)

- Now go to the Router Setup Page & Check the Internet Status in the Top Right Corner It Would Be Connected.

- Try Going Online... :)

My belkin N1 router when i plug it in it just flashes the security light and wont connect to the internet

You will need to double-check your security settings. Apparently, the modem is trying to tell you there's a problem regarding this.
The easiest way to be able to access the router settings in this case, will be to provide a direct connection between your PC and the Belkin router (using a network cable) and then type in that address.
If the address still doesn't work, double check the router's IP address by opening the Command Prompt (it's under Programs -> Accessories) and typing in "ipconfig", then hitting Enter. The IP-address you're looking for is listed under "default gateway".

(Also, make sure your computer isn't using a fixed IP, set it up so it's dynamically assigned an address by the Belkin router.)

Belkin router is unable to connect to 2Wire ADSL modem/router. 2Wire router has DHCP server enabled and Belkin has DHCP server disabled. Belkin is set to obtain an IP automagically. 2Wire IP is...

If the Internet light is off then there is a problem with the phone line to the ADSL modem or the modem is faulty or there is a problem at the telephome exchange.
Disconnect the phone cable at the ADSL modem and connect a phone handset to this cable - check for a dial tone and that you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone, use a different or new phone cable.
If the phone line is OK then : -
Ring your ISP to get them to test your connection to your ADSL
modem.

Configuration of Belkin Wireless Router F5D6231

Whoops, found it. http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d6231-4_manual.pdf

If I were setting this up for myself or a customer, I'd keep the Airtel IP's and let it be the DHCP server. To do this, you pick a fixed IP address for the Belkin, something like 192.168.1.251. Log into the Belkin and change the LAN IP address to that and turn off DHCP. Those instructions start on pdf page 34.

Now, plug one of the 4 ports into the Airtel, and from a computer connected to the network type in 192.168.1.251 in Internet Explorer. It should get you to the Belkin where you finish setting it up for wireless security and password from page 38.

You won't use the WAN port.

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.

Connected??

The best thing to do would be to contact your Internet provider to be sure. There are a couple things you can check on your own that can help you determine this. When you use your DSL or Cable modem without the Router how does it work? Do you not have to assign any IP addresses or DNS settings to get it working? If so, that is a Dynamic IP Address setup. If you have go to into the TCP/IP settings and specify the IP address and the DNS settings that is a Static IP Address setup. If you have to click on an icon that goes through a connection process that uses a User name and Password, that is a PPPoE IP address setup. Once you are able to determine that you should be able to follow the instructions in the user manual.
