My Sirius feed works in my car but not on my Sportster boom box. I am getting a signal and it even displays the current song and channel, however the song only comes on in intervals for about one second and cuts out each time. Do you have any suggestions or know of this being a common problem with Sportsters? Note: I recently resubscribed after about three years of no use, so would the boom box be out of date? Thank you very much for your help!

  • Are you using batteries? If so then change them as this can be a problem that causes this.
  • If you are using an AC power feed then the problem is more likely related to the antenna placement. Satellite receives work horribly inside unless you place the antenna outside (facing the South. This is where the satellite gives it's signals from.)
  • Also the antenna wire may be cracked, so check that good as well.
  • The radio is not outdated, it will work fine. Check the power feed and the antenna placement. One or the other should remedy this.

My sirius kt-sr3000 also works fine in car dock, but when inserted into it's plug+play boom box, boom it displays "antenna not detected"

Try swapping the boombox antenna with the car dock to see if you get the same problem. If yo do, you know the boombox is bad. Otherwise, its the antenna and you just need to get a replacement.

I read the manual and found out that the reason the track title information does not display is because you need to set the text scroll setting to manual.

set this to manual.

Sportster does not work

The issue will have to be the sportster unit. It would be too much of a coincidence for bothe the car cradle and Boom-Box to have something wrong with them. I have seen this before...most of the time, the connections on the sportster will have a bad solder joint. This will cause it to turn on and off intermittently. You can confirm this by wiggling the unit when it is docked and getting it to turn on and off. This is not something that would be easy to repair as you will want an electronics repair to fix. The Sportster comes with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer, so if it is covered, then you can get a new tuner and apply your old subscription to the new one.

Sportster 4

Dick,
Did u go to the menu to get the Sirius ID# or ESN# or did u get it from the box or back of the unit itself?? I used to work in activations department for sirius and the most common reason that a plug and play unit would not activate is a mismatch in ID #'s. I have seen units with one ID number, but the box or the back of the radio actually being labeled with a different number. By the way, only one signal can be sent to the radio every 20 minutes or so and most reps you talk to don't even know this. So after sending the first signal, all they are doing is clicking a button on the screen and getting a message back that says "Duplicate Provision" meaning that the signal cannot be sent because it is already sent. If you were hearing audio on channel 184 when the signal was sent and you made no adjustments during this time, and the SID or ESN number is the correct one for your unit, and the radio doesn't activate, I would get a replacement. But this never happens in my experience unless there are other signs of defect.

Hope this helps!!

SIRIUS Sportster "Acquiring Signal"

Let me save you $30.00. A new antenna will not help, nor will cleaning the contacts. I just did both of those and it did not help. I have mine in the freezer right now cooling it down. Sirius told me that I should not leave it in the car because it gets to hot. They told me to buy another unit....

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?
