It seems that you would be changing lots of air volume with windows open and the attic fan on. I suggest turning off the unit unless the room is closed, so it can recirculate and clean THAT air.

The Fan on my "Fresh

It could be getting clogged up. The lint screen has GOT to be kept clean or the machines fan will pull dust into the machine and it will cake on everything inside, including the fan(will make more sound while running) and can get into the bearings of the fan causing the problems you mention. It may also be a poor electrical connection. If you have ever OILED the motor...you'll have to clean it. It's not meant to have a lot of oil or grease on it.

When the unit is turned on, it works, but the light in the window in front of the unit is wak and there are no readings as usual

Sometimes, for some reason, the lights burn out or don't function correctly. However, you can determine by hearing, smelling, and looking at the fan to see where the machine is set. If the controls still work, and everything seems to be running, just keep using the machine. Since Vollara (EcoQuest new owners) no longer sells nor repairs the machine, your option for repair is just to keep investigating until you find a former dealer or repair person who would look at it.

Fan blade barely rotates when turned on high.

there may be a problem with fan motor, but i believe your problem may be the rotory switch that controlls voltage to fan motor,to check this pull knobs off front ,then remove filter from back, there are 4 screws in bottom of case remove these, pull unit out carefully .there are 5 wires conected to unit ,two for fan 2 for on off switch,1 for ground just what wires go were, then disconnect wires from there posts, and pull unit out of box, find the two wires that go fan, snip wires that go to the circiut board leaving enough space to rewire after test get extention cord and snip off to make direct plug to fan to wall connect extention to the two wires from the fan motor and wire nut or tape so no short, pug extention cord into wall outlet if fan runs on a high rpm or max power, then your rotory switch is no good and you can install an external rotory switch on side of unit,if fan does not run any faster then your fan motor needs replaced, let me no if you need more help

I have an Oreck air purifier model (air 4000). The power light is on but the fan will not turn unless I put it on high speed and manually push the fan to give it a jump start for it to start running but...

I tried that solution and it did not work due to the worn bushing. I went on line to CSH incorporated and ordered #534 Open Ventilation Fan & Blower Duty motor. The motor is a ball bearing motor rather than bushing, and is an exact replacement for the Fasco motor on the original. The repair is easy and a cheap repair at cost of about $67 dollars for the motor plus shipping. The unit now works great again.

Unit hums slightly but fan doesn't turn. I cleaned dust out of unit but still no results.

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

Fans not working

Yeah, I had this happen to one of mine, the motor bearing siezed. Even though mine had run out of warranty and I kludged a fix for it Oreck replaced it anyways after inspecting the unit.

Temporary kludges that worked: light machine oil on the motor bearing, flipping the motor over internally, turning the unit on its edge so that it rides on a 'fresh' part of the bearing, running the unit on 'high' while I was out of the house.

Living Air XL 15, no ozone

My XL-15 had the same problem a few years ago. I had a broken wire on the fan, and the Ozone problem turned out to be a problem with the power supply. I had to send it in to have it repaired.

Can the unit be mounted in a window?

there is no reason why not if the outside part is properly weatherproofed and screened to stop insect etc ingress - easier may be to duct the unit to a hole in a window - use at least 125mm/5inch ducting and dont make it too long. It is not recommended to run the unit in this way, however, as you will almost certainly find that the filters etc will block very quickly due to many more airborne particles(especially living ones) in outside air (depending on your situation) and the fact that inside a room with the unit running you have a relatively closed system that will steadily get cleaner as you use the unit. best way to test this would be to run the unit normally but outside for a while to see if it functions ok. Hope this helps - i cant see that you would gain anything from running the unit in a window apart from higher filter replacement costs :)
