The valve is in filtering position, but its discharging water through waster water area.May be the valve is not got set to filter position or its getting blocked to get set in filtering position. This happens due to faulty o-rings or o-rings getting cracked or the valve movement misalignment. also check if the filtering side of valve is got blocked, so the water is running towards other side and so its causing this.

S210 discharge problem

If it is a vari-flow valve, this usually implies a bad gasket. With the valve set to "filter" and the pump OFF you can remove the screws on the top of the valve to check the gasket. It looks like a pie-chart, and usually called a "spider gasket". Check the gasket for tears or warps in the rubber, if you find any replace the gasket. A bad gasket will cause water to flow into different pipes. Turning the valve while the pump is running will cause these gaskets to fail

Hayward sand filter

Reference your pressure gauge as the 12:00 position. Going clockwise-
12:00 is Filter, normal running position
2:00 is Waste, water goes from pool and exits the waste line, bypassing filter.
4:00 is Closed, used only when servicing equipment
6:00 is Backwash, reverses water through the filter and goes out the waste line.
8:00 is Recirculate, water bypasses filter and returns to pool.
10:00 is Rinse, water goes through filter and exits to waste line, used briefly after backwashing to clear sediment from filter.
Note that the "pointer," not the handle that you grab, indicates which setting you are on.

My hayward vari flow control valve when on filter is letting water to realease thru waste,

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

You need to replace the gasket inside the valve to stop the leak. The gasket kit is pretty cheap and not too hard to replace. We can try to get you the part number if you can post the valve brand and model. You should be able to call any local pool store with the brand of filter and get the part you need without any trouble.

I purchased a house that the pool filter was stolen and I purchased a used filter with a side mount valve. I need to know how to plumb itto my pool. there are 3 ports.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

If it is a Hayward valve like your post suggests there will be a word cast into the black plastic area near all three ports you need to connect. One will say pump, another return and the last one waste.

Pipe the pump port to the pumps discharge. Pipe the return to a heater if one is present or back to the pool. Pipe the waste to an area where you can safely discharge water as you backwash the filter.

How to open pool, fill sand filter with water?

I happen to have a copy of the users manual for this pool filter. These are the instructions for operating your filter.

1. Be sure correct amount of filter sand media is in tank and
that all connections have been made and are secure.
2. Depress Vari-Flo control valve handle and rotate to
BACKWASH* position. (To prevent damage to control valve
seal, always depress handle before turning.)
3. Prime and start pump according to pump instructions (be
sure all suction and return lines are open), allowing the filter
tank to fill with water.
WARNING: ALL SUCTION AND
DISCHARGE VALVES MUST BE OPEN WHEN
STARTING THE SYSTEM. FAILURE TO DO
SO COULD CAUSE SEVERE PERSONAL
INJURY.
Once water flow is steady out the waste line, run the pump for
at least 2 minutes. The initial back-washing of the filter is
recommended to remove any impurities or fine sand particles
in the sand media.
4. Turn pump off and set valve to RINSE position. Start pump
and operate until water in sight glass is clear—about 1/2 to 1
minute. Turn pump off, set valve to FILTER position and
restart pump. Your filter is now operating in the normal filter
mode, filtering particles from the pool water.
5. Adjust pool suction and return valves to achieve desired
flow. Check system and filter for water leaks and tighten
connections, bolts, nuts, as required.
6. Note the initial pressure gauge reading when the filter is
clean. (It will vary from pool to pool depending upon the
pump and general piping system). As the filter removes dirt
and impurities from the pool water, the accumulation in the
filter will cause the pressure to rise and flow to diminish.
When the pressure gauge reading is 8-10 PSI (0.55-0.69
BAR) higher than the initial "clean" pressure you noted, it is
time to backwash (clean) the filter (see BACKWASH under
Filter Control Valve Functions.)

How to set up my onga pump and filter its about 8 years old but looks like the currant model.just got it and they didnt have instructions bugger.

We begin at the suction line. I'll assume that you will be using this as a
pool pump since you have a filter. At the suction line, install a horizontal
or a vertical check valve along the suction pipe. Then the suction pipe
is connected to the bottom pipe adapter of the filter. The top pipe adapter of the filter shall be connected to the pump suction adapter. At the pump discharge adapter, install a GI Pipe Tee. At the bottom of the GI pipe tee, put a GI nipple going to the pump discharge adapter. Opposite it shall be the pipe plug to serve as the priming port. At the GI pipe cross, install a GI nipple about 6-inch long with a service **** to balance water flow. At the end of the service **** install another 6-inch GI nipple to attach a gate valve to control water flow. After the gate valve
is the discharge pipelines going back to the pool.

Note: Pump must be installed within 3 to 5 meters near the water source. You may install more than 5 meters but suction could be difficult for the pump.

Priming the pump:

Open the plug at the tee that serves as the priming port, Fill this up with
water to full level with the service **** at full close position. Once filled
up, replace and close the priming port. Put the power on, and start the
pump running, then slowly open the service **** or flow control valve
to appropriate level.

Just send your e-mail for further assistance. Thanks.

Water is leaking out my waste line when using recirculate.

Replace the internal "wagon-wheel" looking gasket inside the valve. Its job is to keep the water going thru the valve and ports the handle is set to and not leak out of the waste port.

Why would water drip and/or flow out of waste port of vari-flo valve (model # 711)?

The diverter gasket is out of its groove or damaged. You can order a rebuild kit at www.arrowpools.net or from a local pool store.

If contacting us, use the contact button and include you valve number to get price and delivery on the kit.

Problem with vari-flo multipoer 1.5 and Hayward DE fiilter

You need a rebuild kit for the valve and possible a sand change. Sand should be changed ever 3 - 5 years or so depending on overall pool conditions.

The gasket inside the valve is out of place and therefore allowing water to leak out the waste port. Use a gokit to replace all the gasket/orings and you should stop the leak.

If the flow is still bad, inspect the sand and change it if necessary.
