Question about Hitachi Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Hitachi 50UX19K rear projection tv. It worked last night, then today I went to turn it on, the light came on for about 1 second and then clicked off. After that it will click, but nothing happens. Once I unplug the unit, it try to come on for the 1 second and click off again. I can see no burnt or obvious sign of problem. I have some back ground in electronics. Is there anything I can check with an Ohm meter? I recently installed a remote controlled outlet in line to save electricity. Is this what caused the problem?

    The information was helpful. I did discover a reset procedure
    for the surge protection didn't reset until I waited and then pluged
    in the unit and then it reset.

If the remote controlled outlet caused a power surge, this may have damaged the PSU.

As a matter of fact, if the TV shuts down completely after clicking instead of going to forced standby (protect mode), then the part damaged is either PSU or protection circuit.

The TV first test is done visually inspecting the PSU. See if you spot any bulged capacitor or blown component. If there is none the PSU must be tested. Read impedance in resistors, starting from the AC section (near power cord). In the AC section there should also be a Zener, in case test it using the diode tester function of the multimeter. Test power cord and soldering joints for continuity (read Ohms to see if they are open). If the AC section is OK, check if there is any voltage in the DC/DC section (you must have technical training to do safely the tests mentioned).In DC/DC section check 10 and 16V. If TV is not in standby, then there is no +5V. If all voltages come on and TV shuts down check the protection circuit. This is tested following instructions on service manual. As an example check the diagram at page 34 of the service manual for a similar model, available for free at the link below.

Projection TV turns off for a few seconds

Good Day, boattech1;
To my understanding the Model 53UDX10B is a rear projection, that uses no fans. I think maybe your LAMP may be getting weak.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

This has happened a couple of times--no big deal, it just seems to need "re-booting". Try holding 'home' button and 'sleep' button at the same time for 15-30 seconds. That should do it.

Tv went off by itself

When you turn the tv on all the voltages come up for a second but the power supply is sensin a problem and it kills the high volatge and other voltages.One of the voltages the supply sends has a short.The tv needs to be service because components need to be checked and then replaced. Be safe and Seek the help of a technician to diagnose the problem.
