Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

The pilot orifice on my 9213789 coleman furnace is broken, and I need to locate a new one. Apparently this product is obsolete so do you have any idea where I can get used ones from.

SOURCE: pilot light is out of

The thermo couple or the gas valve itself is most likely bad. Cheap enough to start with the thermo couple.

SOURCE: pilot light wont stay lit.want to clean the orifice

You shut off the gas.
Shut off the power.
Remove the gas valve and burner assembly.
After cleaning and reassembly you must purge the system and use a gas leak detecting soap to verify no leaks before turning on the power.

Hello Tom. Begin by using a small brush and a vacuum cleaner with a hose to thoroughly dust and clean the entire mechanical area in that furnace. If it still won't light, replace the thermocouple, an inexpensive component found in most hardware stores. Joe

4 thumbs up please. Thank you.

SOURCE: My Coleman furnace 4322/729 model lights the pilot but won't cut in . What could be problem ? Cleared lines Complete

Gas valve not opening? Does it have the exhaust blower that pulls vacuum switch allowing burner to light?
(1) Thermostat not working? Has to complete the circuit in or gas valve to open.
(2)Can be a stuck or bad gas valve. Try tapping the side of the gas valve body while thermostat is calling for heat. Tapping, not pounding. Like lightly, yannow? don-ohio (:^)

But if the unit is new, it must be under some sort of warranty from Coleman and from the fitter.

coleman website, support, contact and warranty, but the website doesn't list, heaters, or furnaces? I am puzzled.

Gas conversion lp kit 8927 has 2 pilot orifices...I only need 1, correct?

The smallest pilot orifice is used for LP. Make sure you read the instructions thoroughly. Usually the gas valve pressure regulator is disabled and the burner orifices are also changed. Good luck and hope this helps.

Convert coleman furnace model# 7956B856 Serial# 039167560 from propane to natural gas . What do I do to the gas valve and what size orifice do I need ( or drill size to drill the propane orifice out ) .

You will need to get a natural gas conversion kit for your equipment. It will include around three different orifice sizes depending on elevation. Never drill orifices yourself as this is a gas appliance and could kill you. You will have to remove your gas manifold and unthread the existing orifices and screw in the new ones. As far as the gas valve you will need to unscrew and remove the adjustment screw and change the spring located underneath and reassemble. Once changed out you will need to check the manufacturers name plate and adjust the manifold pressure using a manometer. If this is not done having incorrect gas pressure can cause delayed ignition, overheating of the heat exchanger or high carbon monoxide levels. The conversion kit is inexpensive and should take less than an hour to do

Hi I push the button and hold it for many times and don't on the pilot

You may not be getting gas to the pilot, could be the regulator if the heater isn't new, could also be a blockage in the pilot orifice, the orifice is very, very small on these heaters.

Pilot light will not stay lit on model 465FX-R wall mounted gas furnace. Thermocouple was replaced but still won't stay lit. Gas is on at the meter. Any suggestions?

It is possible that gas valve is bad, however, try replacing the pilot orifice located in the pilot assembly. If the flame is inadequate it will not generate the voltage required in the thermocouple. Pilot orifices are less than $10 and can be found at your local heating contractor's parts counter. Bring in the orifice to match.

Furnace pilot problem

check the pilot gas pressure, might be too weak and blowing out when the blower starts, the clicking noise is the gas valve shutting down when it detecks no pilot flame, that park is normal.

Pilot goes out

If the pilot won't stay lit, the thermocouple may be loose or faulty, the pilot orifice may be clogged, or the pilot light's flame may be set too low and needs to be adjusted. You can clear a clogged orifice with a piece of thin wire, such as a bread tie with the paper stripped off of it. Be sure to turn off the gas to the furnace first! Also shut off the switch or circuit breaker that controls power to the furnace. Just poke the thin wire into the tiny orifice where the pilot flame normally burns to knock off any ash or debris. Some pilots have a flame adjustment screw for adjusting the flame. To adjust this, refer to your owner's manual. Normally, this is simply a matter of turning the flame adjustment screw to achieve a full, steady 1 1/2-inch to 2-inch flame that doesn't have any yellow in it.
