Question about Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook (IM1012799OBK)

1 Answer

I own a Dell Inspiron Mini Netbook 1012. Yesterday afternoon I tried turning it on - it goes to the 'Dell' screen, loads most of the way and shuts off. It happens when it is plugged in with or without the battery and when it is unplugged. Also, when I tilt it back and forth it sounds as if something is loose.

Sounds your CPU may be over heatings and turning the computer off so it will not overheat aka Thermo Error, Make sure that your vents on the site are clear, and remove any dust bunny's, and if needed open it up and clean out the CPU fan. Make sure that you turn your computer off when doing this. Hope this helps!!

Where to get a cheap LCD screen replacement?

Try eBay. Do a search for Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 screen You will get results from $36 and up. I've never dealt with any of these particular sellers, but most of them have great reviews and I have used replacement screens for others computers that I purchased on eBay.

The inspiron 1012 does not seem to have an inverter. Is this true and if so where is it? The screen backlight is not working

Based on the instructions for installing a new screen here:
http://www.batterystyle.com/dell-inspiron-1012-screen-p-235410.html
There is an inverter. It's usually hiding under the plastic bezel around the front of the screen.

Dell Inspiron mini 10. The system will not boot up, after the Dell logo screen and blue bar goes away, the screen is blank and the curser is flashing in the upper left corner of the screen. F11 isn't...

That cursor indicated that the BIOS can't find an Windows installed on the hdd. Since even the recovery partition appears to be inaccessible the only thing left is to reinstall it using the recovery cd that should have come with it when you bought it If you don't have it you can order it from Dell.

7 beep error message for dell inspiron mini 1018

For the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook, 7 beeps indicates bad memory (system RAM). The memory will need to be replaced.
The RAM can be replaced using a small Phillips screwdriver and removing the back-plate on the bottom of the laptop. When you see the memory (sticks around 3 inches long), pull those out and put new ones in. Make sure it's the correct DDR2 memory.
Good luck!

On booting up my Inspiron mini 1012 netbook it keeps displaying 'the user profile service failed the logon' and 'user profile cannot be loaded'

Try logging in on the admin acct then delete and recreate the profile. If it doesn't work you can try switching off the comp then continously press F8 while turning on the comp and choose safe mode, then do a system restore.
