I have an HP Compaq d330. Yesterday it worked but today the "on" button only produces red blinking lights instead of the usual green lights. The light on the right blinks 3 times over and over. The computer will not boot up or make any sounds. I'm afraid that it got zapped by lightening last night. Could a lightning strike in the area cause the computer to do this? Is all lost? Could it be possible to get my documents off it even if the computer itself is dead? Yikes!
Thanks so much!
Dont panic the date is more than likely fine was the computer off or on during the night. The three flashes is usual joined with 3 beeps chweck that the internal speaker is on. Second there is a small battery on the motherboard. Disconnect the power then take the battery out for twenty seconds then put it back in be gentle taking it in and out the reconnect the power then see if the unit boots if not. At worst you can take the hard drive out of the computer and put it in another and retrieve the data.
Hope this helps :-)

Please take a look at this link, and consider the possibility that your power supply has failed. Also helpful may be this article. If you take it in to them, a local computer tech can load test the power supply to determine if it is in fact at fault, and they are readily replaced for minimal cost.
Most likely your hard drive will have been spared, and your data secure, but this is the reason quality surge protectors are recommended for IT systems. No way to tell for sure until you power it up again and see if the hard drive spins up...
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
