Question about Nakamichi PA-506 Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

I have a Nakamichi PA 506 Amplifier that goes into protective mode about 50% of the time. Temp and previous playtime seem to have no effect. Sometimes if I cycle the key a few times it will power up. Any suggestions?

hi,
You have to check the ohms of the speakers all spekers should be 8 Ohms or above. if not it will overload the amplifier at high level. The minium ohms impedence of the amplifier is 4 ohms. If you connect two 8 ohms speakers together then the effective ohms will be 4 OHMS then the amp will handle the speakers. If you connect two 4 ohms spekers together then the effective ohms will be 2 Ohms, this will overload the amplifier. You will be able to connect two 8 ohms speaker to left channel or right channel of the amplifier. Check the speaker spesifiction to know its ohms. Make sure all the speakers have an impedence of 8 OHMS or above
OK

There's a problem with my Kenwood vr-506 the power

It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise like a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation.
You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

When i turn up the volume my amp shuts down i turn it down and it comes back on. I have a crossfire vr1000d what am i doing wrong?

Hi,
Is the protect light in your amplifier turns on when it shuts down? If yes, then your amplifier lacks voltage. The reason why it goes on protect mode is, the amplifier is needing an amount of voltage from your car, since your car cannot provide that amount of voltage your amplifier is not getting anything, instead of getting voltage to produce watts its getting minimum voltage & producing heat, to save itself it goes on protect mode so the incoming power shuts off & cools the amplifier.
Example:
Your on vol 40, amplifier is working fine, when you turn it up to vol 50 your amplifier shuts of, then you put it back to vol 40 & your amplifier turns back on.
At vol 40 your voltage is 12v or above. but in vol 50 your voltage drops to 11 & below.

Check your battery or alternator if they are giving enough voltage

Hope this helps your inquiry. Have a blessed weekend.

Hello! onkyo SV717 pro amp that goes into protect mode. Any suggestions how to reset system?

Hi...
If you try JUST headphones (spkrs off), does it still go into protect?
If so, I would say ( from my previous 50 or so receivers) that it needs new power supply capacitors
If not, either one of your spkrs is faulty or they arent connected solidly at both ends

My screen went out on my 50'' nak ...how much to replace it

If your diagnosis is correct and you have a broken plasma screen unit then it's beyond economic repair as a new panel costs more to supply and fit than buying a complete replacement tv.

If the tv has simply gone into protection mode due to a failed cooling fan or if a transformer, relay or circuit board has failed then it's normally a straightforward and cost effective repair but definitely not a DIY job. Fans and relays are the cheapest repairs, typically labour for one hour plus the (usually) cheap parts, transformers and circuit boards are typically one to two hours labour but the parts can be very expensive but the total repair is typically far less than the cost of another 50" plasma tv.

MPA-101 Amplifier powers on, receives source signal, the fuse is not blown inside, but no sound comes out of the amplifier. The amp is pretty new, doesn't even have dust inside the unit.

Hello, is this a Radio Shack PA amp or Jamo amp? The unit is probably in "Protect" mode. Is this a PA system or a receiver...receivers have a protection circuit that will not let the speaker relay activate if the amplifier output section is shorted and sending voltage towards the speakers...so they won't fry!!The speaker relay should activate within 3 to 5 seconds if your output section is ok.

CSI Pa Amplifier with Am/Fm digital tuner p30a

The output section has a problem which is detected by the circuitry and the entire unit is in "protect" mode. This mode effectively shuts off the output. If you don't have electronics repair experience, I'd suggest that you bring this unit to a service shop. Expect a parts cost in the $25-$45 range.
