Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Eject Error Hi. When I switch on the power the eject sign flashes on the screen and the camera beeps. The eject will not work at all. I have a tape full of holiday memories I am very keen to save. If anyone can advise I'd be very grateful.

Does your camera make a buzzing sound as if it trying to eject? Or if you listen carefully can you hear the very faint sound of a motor free-spinning? I have just repaired a friends camera of a very similar model to yours with the same problem. There is a tiny motor in the tape compartment which comes loose from its "pathetic" mounting. This causes the gears to disengage and in turn renders the eject mechanism useless. The motor is in the bottom left hand corner (looking in as if loading a tape) right underneath the Player, off, camera selector. The motor simply needs to be repositioned to engage the gears. I then added some glue to stop it happening again (be extremely careful though as ANY overspill of glue will ruin the camera completely).

I have a Sony CCD-FX410 8mm camcorder. It is in excellent condition. I was going to transfer all my 8mm tapes to DVD and decided I should get a head cleaner for it. Found one at BestBuy, put it in and it...

This is my 3rd try to get a solution. I have a Sony 8mm camcorder, CCD-FX410 and a head cleaning tape is stuck in it and I can't get it out. This camera is in EXCELLENT condition. I tried going to Sony's website and they no longer offer service on it. Both of the other people who answered this told me to turn power off, unplug cord, turn on to VTR and wait 15 seconds, then plug cord in again. It didn't work. After I put the head cleaner in, it wouldn't play and kept trying to eject. Finally it just started beeping and flashing an icon in the viewfinder. Manual says to send for repair. Any ideas on what I can do? Can not get tape ejected. Thank you.

Hi,
I know CCD-FX410 camcorder was launched in July 1992 and I also know what is the reason of problem in your camcorder and I'm afraid it can not be solved because its an old piece now. Parts are no longer available and problem is leaky electrolytic capacitors on its circuit boards. Time factor is involve here, it is not operational mistake.
I can help you out to eject stuck head cleaner tape in camcorder. If you are looking to bring it back in business then it is not possible because an experienced camera tech can repair it and will charge you more then camcorder worth.

Hit "add a comment" button to assist you in ejecting tape. You need to apart camcorder and should have 4 or 6 volt DC supply in hand.
Thanks.

Tape will not eject

I had the same problem and I switched to smaller tapes. I had been using the 120 minute tapes. It seemed like the tape would lock up after a short while with the larger tapes.

Sony ccd trv218e, recording & playing back does'nt work

I had that problem also and I found that using smaller tapes helped. I was using the 120 minute tapes, I think they may be too heavy.

The tape will not eject, battery is charged, help! Thank you!

Unplug battery and reattach it again, then try to eject the tape.
If problem still exist and camera shows error code "C:..:.." and beeps then it is problem of tape mechanism.

C:32:11 message flashes, cassette eject won't work, camera doesn't work

Just had this problem myself... called Sony. Here is what I did to fix this:

1. Turn off power
2. Open the LCD Display
3. Press "Reset" with paperclip/pen
4. Unplug ANY wires connected to the camcorder
5. Eject battery
6. Plug in DC charger
7. Power on
8. Attempt to eject tape
9. At this point, the metal tape holder comes out but refuses to open... slightly "close" the portion of the camcorder that has the button to eject the tape, and then open it fully again (you'll hear a click, this signals the device that the 'hatch' is open and to eject).
10. The metal door *should* pop out and allow you to withdraw the tape.

I've tried 4 different cassettes and about 2 seconds after hitting play, I get the error every time... my solution: Not going to try to play my tapes on the camcorder anymore... will find another player to play Hi8 MP cassettes. Unknown if able to record to tape as of yet.
