Scrap the unit you will spend more repairing it then buying a new one. start fresh its the best way to go.Your compressor probably failed due to cap tube being restricted. If this helps please rate me and do a testimonial.

My whirlpool fridge stopped cooling and a tech came to fix it and told me he installed a booster with no warranty because it's a fix that could last either 1 day or 1 year. Is he right? Should I start...

hmmmmm? i dont like the sound of this at all,,,,,what kind of engineer was he then? the trainee or what?,,,what's a booster???
if the fridge stoped cooling its down to two things,,,the thermostat packed up or the compressor is at fault,,it may need a re-gas however if its the compressor playing up its likely to be a better bet to just buy a new unit,,compressors are not cheep thing to put in and to re-gas if its the thermostat thats a much cheeper part to buy, but just how much will this "engineer???" charge you to put one in? thats if he know's how to?,,,i gess if i were you i would be saving me money up now! and do yourself a faver ,,next time dont use this guy,,he sounds a bit to "ifiy" for me!

My refrigerator turns on and off i hear clicking sound.the compressor dont stops and then after a few seconds it runs again

my parents have a ge refridgerator tfx27e that is not cooling as of this morning. we had repair place out and they said the compressor is bad. per his words, he tested it and said electric is going to the compressor, but when it tries to turn on, something inside is stopping it so it won't run, needs new compressor.

the issue is, this is in a custom kitchen and the fridge has wood paneling on the front and matches everything nicely. i'm afraid a new fridge will never work with the panels made for this one?

it it worth fixing? i'm also pretty handy, but the repair guy said it's a 5 hour job. advice?

Fridge & freezer not cooling. Meat thawing

If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.

First, answer these questions: Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see “It's stopped completely.” Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it.

Next, see if the compressor motor is running The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help. If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

The compressor The Thermostat The overload, relay, or capacitor The defrost timer The condenser fan motor

The mini fridge does not cool. This fridge doesnt use any fans so nothing to check there. The compressor seems to be awfully hot (although I dont know if thats normal) you wont born your hand but it would...

Hi, it's possible, your motor overlay relay has switch off motor, if your days are hot, or if room temp get high, that could happened, unplug ref. let motor cool down for about an hour, if compressor is running, but not cooling, it's possible you got a freon leak, normally ref have a condensate line, that passes through, front of door, that usually get rusted and leak, normally we by-pass it, now if there's a leak, you will have to repair leak first, you will have to change filter drier, vacuum and recharge. no you won't be able to buy freon and tap it up, same princple like vehicle a/c, but, different application, could also be an electrical problem, check motor overload, situated on compressor terminal, remove compressor terminal cover, and you will see overload relay, it's round, has one wire connected to compressor terminal and another connected to wiring harness. also, you can check compressor for short circuit, remove 3 wires from compressor terminal, place one tester lead on copper tubing coming from compressor and next tester lead, place on compressor terminal one by one, if you hear a beep (continuity) from any one of those terminals, compressor windings are faulty, replace compressor, or could just be hot summer months, let it cool down, but remember, remove plug from receptacle. or you are victim of low voltage, low voltages are more frequent in summer months, it could damage compressor winding, or compressor overload relay, let it cool down, and retry it. let me know what happened, before you attempt any repairs. and i can tell you what exactly what the problem are. good luck.

Fridge/freezer cooling inefficiently

Either the repair guy did not wire up the heater correctly or he replaced the wrong part, if the heater was good it was likley to be the defrost thermostat...I would call the repair guy back to check.

Not good news, it sounds like a compressor problem. Vacuum clean everthing you can safely get to in order to make it eaiser for the repair guy, (hopefully to save money). How old is the fridge?

Freezer cool but not cold

It sounds like it is due for a shot of freon (or most likely R-134A), and most fridges have a crimped coolant line instead of fittings to connect to for recharging. Call a few refrigerator repair guys and get some quotes, and then compare the price of a new, more energy efficient fridge. You will probably decide you are better off just buying new, considering the average life span of white goods is around 10 years, and no telling what will go bad next.
