I am getting a Lens Error. There is also a grinding type sound coming from the lens. Is there a way to clean the lens myself to see if it fixes it.

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Canon Rebel XSi won't autofocus and makes grinding sound

There is nothing that auto-focuses except the circuit in the body - all the motors, gears etc. are in the lenses. If this is a 18-55 lens then more than likely the long shaft gear has broken teeth - a very common problem.

Lens error

There is a mechanical displacement. Lens has been shifted to side. That grinding sounds come because motor pushes lens to retract but something is stopping lens's way.......
So get it serviced. Don't turn it on or off, It increases pressure on motor.....

My playstation 2 makes a weird clicky sound when I try to play some of my dvds or games and sometimes it comes up with disk error or unable to read disk and its a brand new disk

Your PS2 lens is displaced from its original position that is what scratching your Discs and makes weird noises too. There can possibly be another reason for them ,your PS2's reading lens is dirty and it is covered by a layer of dust that scratches your Discs and makes sounds too.
You should first clean the lens of your PS2 watch this video to know how to clean your PS2's lens:

Disk read errors are mainly due to dirty or worn out lens,so clean your PS2's lens to get rid of this problem and as for that sound that will get fixed by cleaning lens if still it makes that sound then you will have to take your PS2 to repairer to set the lens height.
Thank you!

Lens error

Hi Trish,

There are 1 of 2 problems that could be wrong here.

1) There is dirt or sand in the lens mechanism preventing the lens from moving, thus giving you the lens error. The fix for this is easy and 90 percent of the time will fix your problem:
Use an air compressor (or borrow a friends). Put the nozzle up to the space between the lens and the camera body and blow it out real good. You may have to do it a few times to get it to work. When your done, gently tap the lens on a hard surface to remove the obstruction. - I have also had people say that they have had good luck using a hair dryer, then turning it over and tapping the lens on a hard surface. That freed up whatever was in the lens causing it to foul up.

2) The guide pins in the lens have gotten off alingment. This prevents the mechanism from turning to retract your lens.
I will wait on this fix, because it is Dangerous for your camera! If you still have a problem with your lens after trying the above...then let me know, and we'll talk about it. Good luck and let me know.

Playstation2 disc error

I can't be for sure, but I believe it's just the lens. What happens is when you put scratched discs into the system, the lens "self-destructs" itself attempting to read the scratches. Hope this helps!

There is no way either of you or a tech can fix this problem without taking the camera apart. Sounds to me like the worm or drive gear is stripped or displaced...probably a 10 cent part...unless you have the ability to do this type of work...its best left to the techs.

There is a risky thing to do...and that is...perhaps its just "jumped" the gear...so it grinds when it attempts to move either in or out....you may be able to manually turn the lens and "click" it back into place. Gently turn it all the way right...then all the way left.
I would want to look inside first before I do anything else...it may be an easy fix...taking it apart will be the not so easy thing.

It seems as a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!

Canon PowerShot SD200 E18 Error

The "E18" error code indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover. The grinding noise you hear-to my regret- means that len's mechanism is malfunction. This type of problem could be fixed by professional only.
