Question about Cuisinart EM-200 Espresso Machine

Open Question

My EM200C is a year old and has used only filtered water. The two-cup filter will brew 2 to 3 shots before the flow slows down then stops. There is obviously plenty of pressure because if I then remove the portafilter holder, it blows coffee all over the kitchen. The one-cup filter which had never been used and has never had coffee in it will not let a single drop of water pass. Pressure builds until the pump shuts off. I conclude from all this that the filter design leave something to be desired. The bit of powder that is generated by grinding the beans has obviously filled up the space between the two bottom layers of the filter. So I'm writing to see if anyone else has had the same experience. When talking with Cuisinart "technicians", I'm told that they've never heard of this problem but that's not credible as mass production assures that if one works well they all do and if one is flawed, they all are. I like the machine and had nearly a year of good service from it. I'd like to see them redesign the filters. I'm thinking that if they had the testimony of a number of users, they might take it seriously. Who's interested..??????

SOURCE: No flow

Tamp the coffee a little less - run water through filter basket to make sure it is dripping out before filling with espresso grounds. Dry the filter thoroughly before inserting coffee grounds. I would reccomend using double filter basket only instead of the single.

I just called Cuisinart and they will send me another brew basket for my DCC-100 (it has a Brew Pause valve also) for $9.14 (part + S&H). Did you try to contact Cuisinart?

SOURCE: Cuisinart Grind & Brew DGB-600 fills up water in goldtone filter;

Some fine-grain coffees are too fine for the Gold Tone Filter. If this is the case, remove the Gold tone Filter and use paper filters only. You may have to wash excess grinds out of the black filter basket, since there may be a few stuck in there now - don't take the filter basket apart - just rinse it out with water.

Also, don't use a paper filter and the gold tone filter at the same time.

Good luck!

Hamilton Beach brew station dispenses very slowly. I have cleaned it twice but still takes a long time to fill a cup!

Try to have a look whether there is a limestone layer built up on the element.
That will slow it down, while most probblems will stop it alltogether.
Remove by leaving white vinegar in it overnight.

No coffe in the cup

Hi
I would say you have a stripped thumb screw. It is in the top left side of the brew unit and holds the filter screen in. If it is stripped there will be water or coffee in the pocket on top left of the brew unit.

It's all plugged with 'lime scale'. That's the white stuff that builds up from hard water. Regular vinegar run through at least two cycles will clear it, then a couple with fresh water to rinse it. That will bring it back to normal flow!

Not brewing. Add water and coffee, switch to the brew selection and the water/coffee does not flow. The machine heat ups and starts processing noise.

Make sure the lid is on the carafe.

Make sure you are not using a paper filter and a gold tone filter at the same time.

Make sure the carafe lid is down all the way and that the center knob of the carafe lid is making contact with the spring at the bottom of the filter basket.

If the above conditions have been met, then decalcify your coffeemaker by running 1/3 carafe worth of vinegar and 2/3 carafe worth of water through your coffeemaker - use the self-clean button to do this - will take about 35 minutes.

Unit will not brew when pod is inserted; works w/o pod however.

This may be one of two issues:
1. The pump is malfunctioning which can cause the internal reservior to not completely fill which causes issues during brewing. My unit dribbled random amounts of water instead of brewing for about a week before the pump died completely.
2. The puncture seal isn't in the right position. Open the Keurig fully so you can see the sharp puncture pin. Very Carefully push the black rubber gasket around it all the way up. Then pull it back down about 1/16". Brew a cup, if the problem continues, try sliding the gasket further down by increments of 1/32".

My cuisinart cod 4000 doesn't use the last 2 cups of water in the reservoir when brewing. Any ideas on what would cause this and how to fix it? It is less than 1 year old.

I would go ahead and clean the unit with vinegar and water - I would use 2 cups vinegar and 2 cups water, although the manual suggests 1/3 part to 2/3. Just brew the vinegar/water like it was normal coffee. Don't forget to take out the charcoal water filter, or else it will get soaked with vinegar. Also, make sure the 1-4 cup button is not pressed, if your variant of the model has a 1-4 cup setting. Good luck!

Slow brew time / water disappears?

I have this problem with a 4 cup model. 4 cups in, 2 cups out. I cleaned it twice with vinegar (with a filter in place). The first time didn't seem to help, but the second time I got about 2.5 cups out, along with a bunch of old grounds that I think had been sucked into the pump. Ran water through it twice, and now it gets to about 3 cups.

I think the problem is just that the pump is clogged with grounds. If vinegar makes yours worse my guess is that a big piece got dislodged and is now blocking the tube. More vinegar might help.
