Heating core or the valve that regulates flow of water into the core.

Possible, with rad cap off, let vehicle idle until coolant fan comes on then shut vehicle off for 30 minute cool down. Top up rad, install cap and drive and recheck heater operation and any overheating.

heat control valvue could be stuck closed not allowing water to pass through the heater core

heating core has been plumbed in wrong or most likely has a leak in the system, as you are smelling the antifreeze - seems to me like the antifreeze is not reaching the core, have you mistakenly plumbed the intake/out take the wrong way round?, this would cause the windows to fog up as the heat is being taken away fro the core rather than being taken into the heater core

If it won't produce heat then you have an issue with your heater core. The heater core could be bypassed, in which case no hot coolant will get to it to produce heat inside the cabin. The heater core could be stopped up with dirt/debris, in which case the heater core can't radiate heat to produce heat in the cabin. The ducting in the dash could not be allowing the hot air to flow to the vents - therefore no heat in the cabin. I'd start with the heater core and check to see if it is bypassed. This generally happens on older vehicles because the parts can be harder to find.

The heater radiator (heater core) is what supplies the heat inside the cabin. The A/C core (evaporator) only cools the air, will not heat it.

try flushing cooling system could be a blocked heater core.if flushing doesnt work remove and replace heatercore.

be sure you have no coolant leak and check if you have a blead valve on the engine for the coolant if you do, blead the air out

check for poor flow to heater core-change heater hoses -check for lime build up at intake connector or worn out water pump -if you only put water through core try using CLRlime cleaner in core-get two 6in pieces or heater hose hook them to core and pour it in and leave for 15 mins then wash out with water hose

Depends on whats "bad" If the core is leaking, you will have heat, but will also have a leak! If core is plugged with gunk, the more **** in there, the less heat! Why do you think the core is bad?
