Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

I have a 5 year old MAYTAG Dishwasher, Model MDB7601AWQ, which is giving me identical trouble as about 5 weeks ago, at which time I see to have repaired it, by depressing and releasing the "Heated Dry" button 6 X and touching "Start". The dishwasher immediately started and worked fine until the other day. Symptoms are a continuous flashing of the number 4 for several seconds and then nothing. I tried the same procedure as 5 weeks ago and absolutely nothing happens....the number 4 (or another number, depending on the wash cycle I choose) just flashes for several seconds and nothing. What could be the cause and remedy??

    HI!

Absolutely no change...still a flashing number 4. Before I can get any indication of lights, I have to press a keypad for a wash cycle. I tried Auto Clean, Heavy Wash, and Normal Wash....each time I get the flashing 4 immediately and following thru w/your instructions does not change anything....the 4 continues to flash....even after I touch the Start/Cancel pad after closing the door. Anything else???

Thanks. I've already tried both tests you mention; each to no avail!!!! I get absolutely nothing other that the flashing 4. No error codes..nothing. The first time I tried this, about 5 weeks ago, as soon as I touched the Start/Cancel pad after doing the press Heated Dry pad 6 times, the machine immediately started and the number 4 became a letter "h" and whenever this "h" was on the Display, the dishwasher worked fine.

I've tried downloading the info presented in your email, but I have only dial-up service and it's been taking me over 40 minutes to really get nowhere...I keep getting instructions to start download, then processing request, then some ads, then back again to start download, etc, etc, etc.

Maybe just can the dishwasher and look for a newer one. In the meantime I'll try downloading again later this evening. Oh well...............

I'll see. I know I had one miserable time replacing the lower panel the last time I had it out for a "look-see" and to get the tech sheet out. Thanks.

    Hello!

I believe I had written that I used the tech sheet and tried both the Field Service Test and the Manual Function Test with the same result......the number 4 flashes on and off for several seconds then all goes blank. NO error codes, NO machine start, nothing.

Hi.

The 4 is not an error code, it is telling that the machine is stuck in part 4. The number changes because different cycles perform same action at different times.
The problem can be given by defective pad or defective control module, but first the machine must be tested.
Behind the toe panel there is is a technical sheet in a plastic envelope. In the technical sheet there are procedures to do Manual function test and Field Service test. Such tests will show the real error code.

Once you find the error code the machine must be repaired. Instructions for repair are in the service manual uploaded here : Click here to start download from MediaFire...

If that does not work, proceed from here (same manual).

Regards.

    Hi.

Please get the tech sheet, then try running the diagnostic and let me see how it goes.

    All the best.

Well, if that can help, the 4th part of the cycle is heating. Test thermostat and heater element using a multimeter set on Ohms. Both parts are defective if the return Ohms infinity (circuit open). There are two thermostats, one is the thermal limiter, both must be tested. Reading is done disconnecting parts and touching the contacts with multimeter probes. The parts are located behind the kickpanel at the base of the appliance. Disconnect power before removing the panel.

Hi

First try to reset the control by pressing high temp wash then heated dry for around 5 times in sequence, if the error returns then post back with the complete error code or codes that you see. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

This means that there is a fault with water fill. You'll
have to unplug the unit and then take the lower panel out and clean the tray
under the dishwasher. Also check the float switch assembly, also check the pump
assembly and replace the part that is bad. Hope this helps...please post back
    for further assistance.

Maytag Jet Clean leaking through right side of door during rinse

It is important to examine the leak to see where it probably originates.

If the water is leaking from the right hand side of the door on your dishwasher, it is time to replace the gasket that seals the door when the door is latched.

Maytag model #MDB7601AWQ Dishwasher

If you think its the button...this can't hurt anything...Take a writing pen on the back end and push hard...If it clicks on a least you know the problem. I do this at gas stations that have these same kind if buttons....They get old and your finger want engage your selection... Just something to do before you go buy the whole panel.

Rusty dish rack

Clearly a design or manufacturing flaw. I have the same model and the rack is disintegrating after 6 years. I believe it is a manufacturing flaw. Our previous dishwasher rack lasted over 20 years in the same conditions. Same construction, vinyl covered steel. New upper and lower racks cost over 200.00 and there is no guarantee that this won't happen every six years. I recommend a new non-Maytag dishwasher as soon as you can. Meanwhile, limp along with the defective racks.
