Question about Safety 1st 22456 CAB Convertible Car Seat

Open Question

My son has gotten sick in his Alpha Omega Elite 3in1 car seat and im am trying to remove the seat cover to wash it in the washing machine, just washing it by hand isnt going to clean it. I can not for the life of me get it off of the seat part. It has little plastic things on it, plus underneath just looking at it the covering itself seems to be permanately attached to the seat. I've read many reviews and comments saying it can be done but none explaining, that i understand, on how to remove it. Same as with the base. I've read it is removeable but can not figure out how to remove it either. The rod that goes through the bottom has a knob looking thing on each end of it and appears to be non-removable. I would use some kind of tool(s) but am afraid i will break them. Hope this isnt to confusing. Please Help!

SOURCE: My daughter puked all over

I imagine you've already fixed this problem by now. I have two of these car seats and it took me the longest time to figure it out. If you still need help, let me know. You're right, the instructions aren't as easy as they seem.

How do i take off the seat cover to wash it???

These are very complicated and if reinstalled wrong could lead to serious injury or death.
Most car seats can be washed but great care must be taken with the belts. hand wash in warm water, no soap. The directions from the manufacturer may help you.
Call Cosco/Dorel (they are one in the same) at:

I have the cosco alpha omega elite 22-155 and i need a new cover

Dorel Juvenile Group manufactures these car seats for under the Cosco brand. You should check out their web site.
  • Check out the recall notices and make sure your seat is not listed.
  • Register your car seat so that you are informed of any future recalls.
We have taken our car booster seat apart and ran the cover through the laundry. We used the delicate cycle and COLD water. We also soaked it overnight. This resulted in a very clean cover. MAKE SURE you take several good quality photos of it so that you can get it back together again. Online manuals do not seem to exist.

There does not seem to be any Manuals on their website, but they do list a phone number. 1-800-544-1108

When I took mine apart I did the following.
  • Take many pictures of it first so you can see how it goes back together.
  • Put all of the parts in a container so you don't lose any.
  • Start by removing the screws on the headrests. There are four of them.
  • Using a flat screwdriver on the left side and a pair of pliers on the right (as you are facing it) pull the metal rod from the hinge to the right. Make sure you don't damage the springs.
  • The screwdriver can be used to gently pry the square metal strap anchor from the plastic holder. It is tight!
  • Then fish the anchor through the seat and fabric.
  • The shoulder straps have to go from the front through the fabric.
  • There is a front clip that is located between the child's legs. I had to finesse the fabric cover around this.
I think that is all I did. We washed the cover in COLD water on delicate and soaked it overnight to get it clean. Hang dry!
