Question about Canon PIXMA MP620 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

I have a Canon MP620. The big black ink cartridge 220 is my problem. It is always t he first to go. It drains out so quickly and I don't print that much. Is there a certain color management setting I need to place it on to make it last longer. I hardly ever have to replace the small black 221. The colors go fast if I do pictures but that big black one is always drained. Ive only done the nozzle cleaning once because I know that will drain it. Is there anything I could do?

SOURCE: Canon MP500 Printing Problem

I had same problem today. Removed print head and bathed it in alcohol for half an hour. Then I removed the two screws underneath and used a syringe to squirt alcohol into the ports and clean. I noticed clumps of ink coming out (i guess some ports were blocked). I then dried the head and reinserted and reinstalled ink tanks. All looks good so far- black printing again and printed test patterns all look correct. Good luck.

SOURCE: smeared lines

Okay, this was the problem I posted a few days ago. It's fixed now, so in case you have the same problem with smearing, here's what the help desk from Canon suggested: Open the cover and remove the ink cartridges. There is a gray lever in front of the cartridges. Lift this lever and the printhead can be easily removed.
Our printhead had a buildup of black ink on the surface. I carefully removed this with rubbing alcohol. I let the printhead dry and replaced everything. No more smearing. Imagine a help-desk that actually helped!

SOURCE: Colors are not printing out true.

I replaced the Office Max ink substitute with an original Canon ink. This did not help. I decided this problem most probably had to be a printer head issue, so I gave up and bought a new printer instead.

SOURCE: PRINTING WITH BLACK INK CARTRIDGE ONLY; COLORED CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY.

Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.

My canon Pixma MP620 wont print in black. All the other colors are fine. I've tried deep cleaning with no results..

Hi,
Try this;
- Open the document you want to print - Go to file > Print - click properties in the print window - in the menu select 'Maintenance' - in the 'Maintenance' click 'Ink Cartridge Settings' - select Black Only - click OK - click OK - now you can print only using the black ink in the printer.
Hope this helps.

My Canon MP620 is printing in pink (and a bit of orange) only. All cartridges are at least half full. The big black one is full as are the pink and cyan ones. How can I get the black to function again...

Use the CANON software on your computer to run some "printer maintenance", namely a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog any blocked ink-jets that are _not_ shooting ink onto the paper.

My canon pixma mp620 won't print black ink but other colors print ok.

Does printer have 2 black cartridges, 1 large 1 small? if so, the small black one and colors only takes care of the color print jobs and the large black one, the main black and white jobs. Make sure you don't have an empty large black cartridge.

Canon IP4300 - the two black ink cartridges

No!

The large cartridge is used for text only printing.
The smaller black cartridge is used for black in images such as pictures.

You have a "C (cyan) M (magenta) Y (yellow) and B (black) color system. This actually saves the color inks for you. If the Black was not there, you would need to make a composite black from the color inks.

My black ink will not print. Do I have to have

The larger of the two black cartridges is used for text only printing.

The saller cartridge is used for black in graphic images or pictures.

This saves you color ink . It allows you to put the black ink on the image without making the color inks blend the black ink.

What is the purpose of the small black in cartridge

They are both described as black but the larger one is "pigment" black. So the answer is they will not switch over because they are different inks and different sizes.

Hi,

With these types of printers they will use all 4 colors to make black unless you configure it other wise. The link below will take you to the printers support page. In the box that says "please enter your question" type "how to use only 1 black ink". it will give you top results, just click #1 and it click on your operating system. Follow the instructions given and that should take care of it. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
