SOURCE: problems connecting my acer laptop with tv

Sound and picture are two seperate things unless you use an HDMI cable so lets just deal with the picture first
After you do the connection, you need to tell your laptop to present the picture to the TV.
1- On your keyboard, one of your function keys (F1, F2 etc.) will have a short cut for this as a secondary functionality. Check for the function key that has an icon on it that looks like a screen (usually it is f4 or f7). Then hit the key that activates  your secondary functions and the key you just identified. This should activate the VGA output and in most cases will also give you a configruation screen (where you can select it as a secondary display, dual display etc.)
If this short cut doesnt work, you can try this
2- Make sure VGA cable is connected on both ends. Right click your desktop on the computer and select "Properties". On the new dialog, select the last tab "Settings". Click the drop down box under "Display" and you should see the TV as the secon option, select it. Then select the check box that says "Extend my display...", click Apply and OK. This should expand your screen to the TV, you should now be able to drag windows from your laptop's screen to your TV's.
Good luck! (Instructions on option 2 are for XP, if you use Vista let me know and I will look up the terminology for that)

SOURCE: connect my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop to my HDTV via VGA

If the Vostro doesn't read the signal automatically try to switch the signal from internal to external using the Fn (function) key + one of the F keys above the number keys. This key is usually F4 but may be different for yours. Also, make sure the input is correct on the tv....

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the Right/Rear of the laptop.
Example of a VGA connector (Port), and a VGA Cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

Scroll down a little for an example of a VGA Cable.

You can use a CRT type of monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

Yes. You can also connect an HDMI cable to it, and HDTV with this capability.

Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.
By factory default settings the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

If not;
There are at least 3 display options;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor.
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. At the SAME time tap once on the F5 key. The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

I have connected my hp Pavilion dv6 to my panasonic p46v20z but no picture shows on tv. Is my pc not compatible?

Usually there is a key on the keyboard that must be pressed with the function key to alternate the video outputs. Usually it is Function F7 or F8. This key set must be pressed more than once to get the preferred setting. Each time it is pressed you will get one of the following. Out VGA, Out VGA and Monitor Screen, and only Monitor Screen.
Monitor Screen being the laptops display screen. Out VGA being the rear port on the laptop.
This is usually the reason for the issue you are having.

Multiple vertical screens at startup (dell inspiron 4100)

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop (15 pin VGA connector). If the display appears normal on the external monitor then you have an issue with your laptop's LCD display. If the external monitor also has vertical screens then your video circuit on the laptop has a problem.

I am trying to connect my laptop via VGA cord to my 65" Mitsubishi Medallion, but when I click on the VGA device selection in the device menu, it goes to a blue screen and says "Warning: Turn on...

Press the Windows key + P on your laptop.
Or, if that doesn't work, look on your F keys for something that looks similar to a monitor.
Press the FN key and that key.
This should bring up your laptop's display on the tv.

Fujitsu lifebook screen will not come on

Could be a dead screen, use your vga, hdmi or svideo port to an external monitor or tv, if you get video there, then your laptop is still working and it is your screen. Check to see if you see any pictures on your screen but it would show in really really dark picture... if that is the case it is your screen backlit bulb that gone bad and the screen will need to be replaced. If nothing appears on your screen but you get picture to a external monitor via s-video, hdmi or the vga port then it could be that you have a loose cable connection or bad wireing somewhere between your latop base and the screen. If nothing at all appears on your screen or the external monitor source then you have a promblem with your laptop.... and those promblem can be in a wide range of trying to seek out the defective part.

What do i have to do to be able to use my tv as a secondary monitor using my gateway laptop model mx6708

It depends on what type of tv you are looking to connect it to, it looks like your model has a 15pin Vga output built in which was originally intended for connecting to a destop type pc monitor but some lcd tv`s have vga connection which you can use. If your tv has a vga input you will need to buy a standard vga cable available from most computer stores, even asda sell them now! The procedure to switch displays is to press the Fn key and one of the function keys (normally f4 or f8 but depends on manufacturer, look for a key that has something vaguely resembling two monitors with an arrow between them somewher in the lower section of the key) then you should be able to use the tv as your screen.

Hope this helps, if you need more help let me know what sort of tv your trying to connect to and I`ll see what I can advise.

Acer 5515 on external monitor

Get an VGA cable and connect your external monitor to your laptop via a VGA port that is usually used for digital projectors. In this VGA port, you can initiate dual monitors.

Then look at your keyboard and look an icon in your function keys (F1 to F12) that looks like a pair of an LCD and a TV like this {LCD icon/ TV icon}. In most laptop keyboards, this is located in F4.

When found, and with the external monitor hooked to the laptop via VGA port using a VGA cable, press and hold down the FN key and press the function key where the icons described above is located. Example, FN + F4 to toggle a single and a dual monitor.

Give it a try.

I have an Element 32" flat screen tv model # ELCHW321 that i am trying to use as a computer monitor via vga to vga connection and am not having any luck. The tv says no signal. I have tried a newer laptop...

When you are using a laptop you have to press and hold down the function key and hold down the dual monitor key (either F5 of F8) for about 15 full seconds. The screen of your laptop should darken and the image should come up on the tv screen.

I am trying to connect my laptop to the Polaroid LCD TV, as i would like to use the TV monitor as a computer monitor (my laptop monitor is broken). So I connect the correct wire to correct places, however...

The simple patch that I found (same problem) was to start by using any old monitor that I could borrow to set up my Dell Laptop.
After getting the Laptop booted on a regular monitor I right clicked on the desktop and went to properties then to the settings tab.
Here I found the dual monitor settings (#2 will usually be dis-abled by default.)
Click on #2 monitor and set the resolution to the lowest number (800 x 600 works well)
Then I clicked on "make this monitor my primary monitor"
As soon as I clicked apply the PC Windows screen appeared on the Polaroid TV screen

Earlier I had set the secondary monitor as "extend this screen to this monitor"
This also worked but I had to "drag the current screen to the right all the way off the
"borrowed monitor" until it appeared on the TV screen. The mouse pointer will be there also.
At first it took a little getting used to but in a few minutes I was up and running.
Hope this helps your situation
