Question about Magic Chef CTB1821AR Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

The fridge puts out very little cooling. the fan motor runs OK. I had another fridge that did the same thing. My kids spilt somthing and the drain pipe from the freezer section to the pan at the bottom was plugged. I cleanes it out and all was OK. Does this fridge have this drain pipe.? if it does where is it? I am not saying this is the problem.

Hi

If refrigerator is not cooling properly it can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer goes bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.

1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Frig and freezer warm. I dont have signs of freezing on back wall. though did notice a little condensation in freezer yesterday. now today both had basically warmed to room temp. Fans in both sides are...

Hello,

The most likely thing you here clicking is the thermal overload on the compressor 2 things will make it repeadly trip off are

1) the relay on the compressor is burnt out but it continues to start compressor but cant

2) the fan motor that cools the compressor is either seized up or something is stuck it jamming it up
causing the compressor to overheat tripping out that overload, it could be checked by removing
the back cover and seeing if anything is caught in it

a average repair cost for the relay would be $175-225
for a new condensor motor about the same, and to remove what may be caught is about $100

a short list of things i have found caught in condenser motor is
carry out menu,salt/pepper shaker or a long list of things that used to be on top of fridge before they fell off
rodents (mainly mouse but a fair share of chipmunks and a occasional rat)
dogs/cat toys that ended up under fridge
ect ect ect

Fridge Motor

which one?evap fan motor or the condenser fan motor?i've seen the evap fan blades in the freezer wear out in the center where it slides onto the motor shaft so when the motor comes on the blade doesn't spin with it,need a new blade,or if the freezer is on top the drain blocks and the air vents freeze up,is there water leaking anywhere or ice on the freezer floor?need to send a little more info, also model number would help

Kenmore 5126101 middle separator b/t fridge/freezer extremely hot

There are 2 or 3 things that would cause this. first make sure the condenser coils are not plugged with dust (vacumn or blow them out) next check to make sure the fan that cools these coils is running, (this is the most likely problem). if both of these check out ok then you would need to check to make sure your interior lights ar going off when the doors are closed as these will add extra heat and cause the center rails to run hot. last and most uncommon would be a freon system problem.

fyi there is a hot gas freon line that runs in between the doors to prevent exterior sweating. when poor or no air flow problems for the condenser coil exist it causes this area to become hotter.
One more thing. if you do determine that the condenser fan motor is bad you can put a normal house fan blowing on to the coil to help cool this area down until you can get the unit repaired.
If you need any further assistance leave me a comment here and I'll gladly get back to you. Thanks Peyton

Fridge is not cooling or freezing

can you tell me the model # on the fridge please? the motor is running continuously because it's trying to cool the fridge. it may be a few things, the defrost thermostat, the fan motor itself or the compressor.

First of all Give me model# and Serial#.
you will most likely have to replace main control board and evaporator fan motor. They have had a service bulletin out on this problem.

Refrigerator compartment not cooling

If you are sure the fan in the freezer is running and you don't feel any air flow out of the top middle vent inside the fridge section, then the damper motor must be bad. The damper motor is behind that vent cover inside the fridge section.
