My magellan 700 works intermittently. It works if I unplug and replug several times but then just shuts off at will.

I just tried to plug it in to get info off of the GPS re: software and it no longer comes on at all.

  • deedikeman Aug 15, 2008

I plugged it into the power supply in the car and it won't come on. I'm not sure what other kind of power supply would work/there is.

You need to update the firmware and that should take care of the unit.

Try to plug it to a power supply and check if it will power on, but not there's a possibility that the unit is dead already that may need repair or replacement...

Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS does not work properly

It seems that Magellan is not good with the power connectors on their units, I believe the problem is with the power adapter plugged into the cradle. Sorry I have no information about a repair center. Usually for an absorbent amount of money, Magellan will repair.

My Mgellan 700 was working fine for many years.

ok56,

Thanks for using Fixya 1st of all.

This problem has surfaced MANY times. It has been solved by numerous solutions. Without replacing the circuit board behind the keypad or the LCD I do NOT know a way to solve this. There never was a definite solution that remedies this. Possibly unplugging/replugging the ribbon cable from the LCD. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Let me know if anything changes.

Lost sound and audio after updating the firmware

I have the same loss of audio problem on my brand new 700. It went out briefly BEFORE I downloaded the firmware 3.32. It came back later, first with the second user setting, then it returned across the board. So I knew there was a little intermittent bug in there.

Now, with the Vers. 3.32 firmware downloaded, the sound never came back, and it seems that it is not coming back at all so far, and I've tried powering it off and on again several times with the 12v as well as the AC adaptor cord. Still looking for a secret menu on that.

Frozen screen when turned on

Kevin, Hmm... it worked fine the first two times you ran it, then all of a sudden it freezes at the user screen?? I'm not sure if your able to do this, but at the user menu, try pressing the (-)zoom out key and the repeat button a the same time. -If it does bring up the "secret" menu, try clearing user data. -If you have a program that allows you to update the software, version 4.32 I'm guessing (or 5.14) then at that "secret" menu select NAND Flash Format and re-load the software. If you can't access the "secret" menu and it locks up hard at the user menu w/out any responsiveness, I would suspect the hard drive is either bad or has corrupt data. I'm not sure if you can order just the hard drive from magellan/thales/tomtom/shaw but if you can then just replace the hard drive, nand flash format (above) and re-install your software via usb. Additionally, not that it helps your problem, but atleast you would know the pwr and keypad work if this works, press Enter, Cancel and power button at the same time, as this SHOULD power off your unit. Let me know if any new symptoms/problems come up or if you need further instructions. -Daniel
