    No that doesn't work

  • virginiamary Aug 15, 2008

All these suggestions are good but I'm thinking that there's something wrong with the computer because for a while it's been slow to download my homepage and sometimes it didn't even respond so I end up shutting it down to reboot.

If the computer is always freezing this can be a problem with one of the hardware components of the computer like the hard drive, memory or processor , if you can trun it off for a about an hour then try to boot it up again and listen for any beeping sound when you reboot it ,that will help us in diagnosing the problem...

All you need to do is take off the power cable from the back of the computer leave it unplugged then try to push and hold down the power button for 60 seconds without connecting the power cable, then release the button reconnect the cable and it will definately turn on and boot to normal windows.

Impossible to diagnose remotely. You need to try things like switching the computer off at the mains for a few minutes. If I had the computer I would try a different PSU.

My base unit keeps shutting off after about 8 minutes. Sometimes it comes on in a minutes and other times it must be reboot (unplugged.) Is it defective?

I just had the same issue - i've had them for about 18 months and they were working fine with my regular tv set - connected the red/white analog plugs to the back of the tv and then other 3.5mm end to back of base... but now, i just bought an LG hdtv and had to reverse that connection... 3.5mm to the tv and the analogs back to the base... worked ok for about 10 mins then the base shut off... seems that the volume setting on the hdtv wasnt up high enough to "register" with the base - base thought nothing was happening so it automatically shut off for "inactivity" - so, when plugged into tv, I turned the tv volume way up to 100.... seems to have worked - just need to be sure to turn the volume on the tv back down before removing the headphone jack!

Keyboard not working after being unplugged & used on another comp

Close down computer and reboot and pray. I mean to close down not reboot, not hibernate, not sleep.
Why? The electronic chips chatter before the operating system boots up. BIOS asks who is here? Any Keyboard, and other internal bits.

For readers... Cold rebooting fixes a multitude of problems with not working. OK, it does not fix everything, but it is a good first try

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution: Disable USB Emulation (legacy support) in the computer BIOS

Turning off USB Emulation (legacy support) in the computer's BIOS
The following steps are for Dell computers. If this issue is occurring on another brand computer, the process of entering the computer's BIOS may be different. Additionally, the steps to make changes may differ as well. Refer to the computer's documentation to verify the appropriate steps to disable USB Emulation.
For Dell computers, perform the following steps:
While rebooting the computer, press the <F2> key to enter the System Setup (BIOS).

Press the Down Arrow <?!> key repeatedly until 'Integrated Devices' is highlighted.

Press <Enter> and another window appears.

Press the Down Arrow <?!> key repeatedly until 'USB Emulation' is highlighted.

Press the Plus <+> key to change the value to 'OFF'.

Press the <Esc> key to exit this window.

Press the <Esc> key again to exit the System Setup (BIOS).

When the message "Do You Want to Save Changes And Exit" appears, press the <Enter> key indicating Yes to save changes. The system will reboot.

Start > turn off computer does not work on XP

Some process running in the background is not letting the system shut down. Use task manager to kill unnecessary processes before pressing turn off. If it shut downs then try to locate the process using taskmanager which is causing this problem.

Let me know if it helps.

Computer shuts off when transferring tracks

There is a problem with a corrupt file. it seems as though it is playing tag between your computer and sansa. clean up the computer and erase everything from the sansa, restart/reboot everything then try it again. if the problem continutes then it may be the motherboard, but please note that the motherboard would not mess up your computer. if it is under warranty, send it back. Thanks,.....Connie
