Question about Whirlpool Dishwashers

1 Answer

Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU1345XTVQO, Serial NO: FY2206044, TYPE 575-0. Problem: dishwasher does not empty water from unit during the wash cycles; activating the CANCEL/DRAIN function does not empty the water either. Problem seems to have started a few months ago with some water left in the bottom but activating the DRAIN function would discharge it. Now that doesn't solve that problem.

    Macmarkus,
First i would like to say thanks for the quick response to my request for help with the Whirlpool dishwasher and the very clear directions for dis-assembly and troubleshooting. Even noting what size of star sockets to use saved me a couple rtips to the barn for the right tool.

After following your instructions and removing the filter and chopper screen, all looked brand new. Trying the dianogistics test indicated that all systems worked but the water still remaining in the bottom (approximately 1.5 gallons) required 11 manual pumpouts.

So I uninstalled the unit and checked the drain hose behind the dishwasher and at the drainpipe beneath the kitchen sink. The sink end had some green goo in it and the dishwasher end looked kinked where it lay beneath the unit. I replaced the hose with a new 5/8 inch heater hose and all now works fine.

BTW all this took the better part of a week because I have too many projects going on but there is no FIXYA solution to that.

    Again thanks for the assistance.

    Craig Ratkey

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a drainage problem with a Whirlpool dishwasher. t
ypically with these machines having poor washing and incomplete draining it can be chalked up to obstructions in the sump assembly. Here's how to inspect it and clean it if necessary.

Try this link if you think you're not too confident. They aren't pros, but it is a good guide for accessing the sump assembly relatively easy. This combined with my tutorial you should be fine.

1 ) Remove the turbo wash tube if applicable to your model, it pulls off, i.e.
Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU1345XTVQO, Serial - a6dcf7f.jpg

2 ) Spray arm removal. hold the center nut and spin the arm.
f634f7c.jpg
3 ) Now you can remove the upper spray arm supply tub or referred to sometimes as "rear feed cap".
a ) lift to Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU1345XTVQO, Serial - 87fb0d6.jpg rear tab, i.e.
87fb0d6.jpg
b ) Then twist the feeder to the right ( clockwise ), i.e.

4 ) Now you can remove the center nut...

Then remove the four # 20 torx head screws holding the filter in place, and lift the filter out.

Below the filter you`ll find food debris, undissolved detergent etc, but also a cover with a single #10 torx head screw to remove and the cover will pull straight up and out. the arrows from left to right in the image indicate...
1) screw location
2) tab to pull up on
3) the latch you may need to twist to the left to remove Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU1345XTVQO, Serial - macmarkus_416.jpg
i.e.
macmarkus_416.jpg
Now you should see the chopper and screen asseWhirlpool dishwasher Model DU1345XTVQO, Serial - macmarkus_615.jpgbe clogged up pretty bad, clean it best you can...you don`t really want to remove this part.

macmarkus_615.jpg

NOTE: Pay particular attention to the area where I've placed the arrow. It is a back flow check valve and can get debris stuck in it allowing water to back flow into the sump after the drain cycle ends, hence you get water left behind.

The other thing to inspect is the drain. The proper drain should actually be tied up at least as hi as the top of the dishwasher and the closer to the machine the better, but if it drains into a sink or disposer right next to the machine as long as it is tied up under the sink it should be fine...you also want to rule out any kinks in the hose of course.

Now you'll need to run a "reset" test sequence to observe it's performance. Press the following buttons in this sequence...

HEATED DRY - NORMAL, HEATED DRY - NORMAL, HEATED DRY - NORMAL

This diagnostic cycle may take approx. 15-20 minutes to complete. Let it proceed through to completion and you should be good to go...unless the pump itself is at fault...we'll cross that bridge if OR when necessary.

Let me know how you make out, please keep me informed if you need further assistance or anything is unclear.

Please take a moment to rate me assistance and a short testimony is appreciated as well.

Thank you for choosing FixYa and good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

It is likely the water circulation system is faulty. This dishwasher uses a single motor to run the water pump and the drain pump. If you hear the wash pump operate during wash cycle then it is likely there is a blockage in the water circulation manifold which distributes the water through the arms.

If you do not hear the pump operate during wash cycle then the sensor is faulty. The sensor tells dishwasher to switch to drain cycle from wash cycle.

Try following the diagrams at top of this website to get idea of parts.

Hi 2ipnelson,

Very difficult to know for sure which part is not working.

It is best to run the dishwasher in testing / service mode to ascertain which component is not working.

I found a .pdf document that explains the whole process, it should also work for your SHE model.
The link: LINK - CLICK HERE

Follow the steps, and the culprit part should be diagnosed.

Hope this helps :-)

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

Extremely long cycle

The drying coil that is broken also heats the water during the wash and rinsing phase. Right now it is waiting for the water to heat up, that's why it's pausing. Replace broken heater, they are relatively cheap and can be gotten at repair clinic.com.
