Question about Hotpoint Dishwashers

1 Answer

Hotpoint dc 23 slimline dishwasher, the motor is running but there is no water entering the cabinet, subsequently the dial remains in the same position as first chosen, there is water at the supply. Is there a microswitch or trip on this model that may be preventing the machine from filling as it seems to be making all the right noises but no water. best regards alan

Hi,
It would sound like you have a problem with the solenoid valve that allows the water to enter the dishwasher. Check for power going to the valve...if you have power and no water then the valve is bad... no power then you have a control problem...
Eliminate those possibilities first and then go from there...those valves do go bad...

Hereis a tip that will help you to find out why water will not come into thedishwasher...

Water from my disposal backs up into my hotpoint ($300-model) dishwasher. The dishwasher works fine otherwise. Is there a one way valve in the diswasher that is suppose to prevent reverse flow and/or is...

If it's what I think, it's a simple fix. Does your dishwasher drain run along the floor of the cabinet, then up to the disposal? (my guess is yes). There should be an "air gap" between the disposal and dishwasher, this means when it comes out of the disposal, it should go UP and be clipped to the highest point of the inside of your cabinet, then down. Think about it, sh*t flows downhill, but it can't get over a hump. Good luck

Water comes into dishwasher without being turned on

if the water is entering the dishwasher without your turning the unit on you got problems..
just want to verify that it does it even with the power turned off to the unit also..
if so the fill valve is bad and stuck open.
hope this helps,
best of luck,

There is water in built in dishwasher when cycle is done.when you open door it runs out and rest remains in bottom of dish washer about an inch and a half of water.

The drain hose is supposed to go from the garbage disposal to a high point under the sink in back to keep the water from gravity draining into the dishwasher when it shuts off. If you look you will see that the hose is laying on the bottom of the sink cabinet. Get a hook and wire it up so you're not washing dishes with water from the disposer. Be sure to run the disposer. if it is clogged with food the dishwasher will not drain, water will back up and drain back into the dishwasher. Also make sure that the pipe exiting the disposer isn't clogged and draining slowly. hhe best solution is to have an air gap that mounts on the sink. It goes between the washer and the disposer to keep this from happening.

Dish washer not filling with water when put on

There are a few things that can cause this problem, it could be a defective water inlet valve, it's usually located behind the lower kick plate on the left or right hand side of the dishwasher, When the washing cycle is started it sends voltage to the water inlet valve to open which allows water to enter the machine, or it could be a faulty float switch, when water enters the machine the float switch raises up which signals the water inlet valve to shut off, the float switch is located inside the dishwasher at the bottom, you can check the float switch by raising it up and down to see if it's stuck in the up position. Good luck.

motor turns to cast the water around the dishes.that motor shaft is in close by a water seal.it must have gone bad allowed water on to the motor bearings which would be your noise.could be bad.open your bottem panel turn on unit and watch whats happening.when you see that decide what parts you will need ,check cost and think if thats what you want to do.God bless, tom
