F&P Fridge/freezer, with freezer not freezing well

Hi Azrael, many thanks for you reply. I have one that is Smart Active, not sure of exact model, as I can't find anywhere in the fridge.

I already deforsted for 24hs last week. Then my fridge was too warm, and freezer was fine. After defrosting it is otherway around. My ice-cream does not freeze, but other items are frozen.

Would you know if changing the thermostat sensor is expensive?

    Many thanks!

Many thanks for your advice, I think I'll buy another second hand fridge, with the price of fixing it.

There are dozens of models of Fisher & Paykel refrigerators, each with it's own characteristics. But in most of them your problem happens when the thermostat sensor gets decalibrated because it's failing. The only way to certify this is to measure its output - a job for a pro, you will have to call one.
In the mean time you could manually defrost the freezer and inspect the evaporator coils for damage or air circulation problems (ice and/or debris buildup).

Not very expensive but a complicated job - the wire for the sensor is located all the way to the rear and hard to access. But from you describe it appears that the problem is located in the control board - the processor in there has started to mix the commands: it's cooling the fridge like it's the freezer and the other way around. The control board must be tested and replaced - a job only a pro can do it safely. This repair will cost you around $350

Yes, that is also an option. Just make sure you disinfect it thoroughly before use, you don't know where it has been.

Fridge warm and freeze cold

Rachael, I recently had a similar issue. Unfortunately, the problem you describe could be related to several components & sensors that could have failed which cause similar symptoms. There are a few things that you will need to start with in order to best lead you in the best direction for repair. First, ice building up says that there may be a problem with the auto defrost cycle. Usually a sensor that sits on the evaporator in the freezer side. You want to start with actually measuring the temp in the freezer and the fridge. If you can, remove items, turn fridge off & then unplug fridge from outlet. Let sit overnight with doors open. Two goals, here. One, ensuring that any ice that has formed in the air passages has a chance to melt completely. Second, unplugging the fridge helps "reset" the control module. You stated "hearing the motor" working. Do you mean the compressor or the fan in the fridge. IMPORTANT, you need to make sure that when the fridge is "running" that you can feel air blowing in the freezer & fridge section. Do this before turning off & unplugging. Lastly for now, did anything out of the ordinary happen before you noticed improper operation?

I have a ffa90 futre fridge & bottom frezzer. the fridge is frezzing the food in the door & in the fridge. have tryed water in botles & they get ice on it .in the door the food frezzers so

Find where the supply air is coming into the fridge part. It comes from the freezer and could easily be supplying -18 air direct to the door. This would give you a 2 in the fridge but anything in the direct air path could freeze.

Fridge not freezing meats

I was writing a big note here before then hit the wrong button, it was just a bunch of jargon anyway. Yes it is the condenser fan motor causing your problems. Doesn't cool the refrigerant properly than nothing works. I would change the fan before it causes any damage to the compressor.

Fridge section not cooling enough but freezer OK

Is the fan blowing in the freezer section? Also, check to see if you have airflow thru the damper (vent) in the frig section.

first look for an air vent in the bottom of the fridge(a small grill on the inside wall) & make sure nothing is blocking it, like bread eg: if there isn't then unplug your fridge & let it defrost, check the drain outlet in the back of the freezer, sometimes a small item like a frozen pea gets into the drain & the water freezes around it causing the air not to return to the freezer from the fridge, to push air into the fridge you must be able to get air out or it presurises,

Freezer not freezing food, and fridge not getting cold.

Hi, both compartment of the refrigerator (freezer & fridge) not freezing and getting cold means you have low or empty freon (gas) in the compressor of the refrigerator and you need to refill it as soon as possible.

Take care

Fridge of my Hotpoint FFA90 fridge-freezer freezes

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.
