Question about Troy Bilt Tb70ss Gas Trimmer

Open Question

My troy-bilt TB70ss trimmer only runs well at half choke. I chnaged out the gas with new gas and oil mix. I also replaced the carb kit and cleaned the carb. I did not adjust the high and low jets. It seems to run a half choke and later will start to run on a gully open choke. At half choke it will throttle up, but tries to die at fully open choke. Not sure what the problem is now.

SOURCE: Troy Bilt trimmer model # TB575SS no high throttle

Dont replace the carb! The gaskets are what wear out on walbro carbs and the like. Specificaly the fuel inlet membrane which is under the removable plate opposet of the throttle plate. It is a black gasket with a small metal button in the middle. This regulates the fuel supply. If if is still flexable then it is good. Usually they become crisp after sitting for a couple years. Start with a gasket set( 5 to 10 bucks) Then try adjusting your fuel and air mix needles if need be.

It sounds like you have done everything but replaced the fuel filter. Which is usually located in the fuel tank. And clean the muffler. You will probably find some oil and carbine build up.

good luck

SOURCE: can i buy a carb cleaning kit at lowes, h depot or

you can buy on any auto parts carburator cleaner. And make sure you have a clean filter inside the fuel tank use a little hanguer or any kind of wire for catch the filter be careful came loose easy some times. Cleaned with carburator cleaner and let dry or use air. another think is could be yor carburator is dirty inside in that case you need to remove the cover and remove the 2 screws. Mark your lines top and bottom them removed, now remove carefully the carburator be careful with the gasket remove the 4 Little screws and remove carefully the black Gasket spray carburator cleaner inside the holes and line tubes. Second remove the 1 Big screw on the other side of the carburator be carefull with the gasket spray carburator cleaner and do the step for installed

SOURCE: Troy-Bilt TB70SS will not start

Hi. Go to any auto parts store and get a can of starter fluid. Have a helper squirt a little into the air cleaner while u start it up. Then continue to squirt the starter fluid to keep it running until the engine sounds good again. J.

If you rebuilt the carb did you turn any of the screws on the carb while cleaning or take out, you might have just the low idle screw closed a little to much open half turn and see what happens. If you look at the carb where needle screws are located on the side,if you have two screws it will be stamped with an " L " and?or an " H " next to each screw. If you only have one screw then turn that one, to left to get more fuel. Good Luck...

Troy built weedeater 70ss gas engine will not run

The needle and seat (esp. the needle) meter the amount of gas/oil that is being allowed into the metering chamber of the carb for use by the engine. Your problem does seem fuel related. These carbs are very temperamental and scare most folks. A guide to how they work can be found here:
This will give you an understanding of what exactly you are dealing with. You may only require a diaghram kit or rebuild kit to get the carb back to the functionality it was designed for. That info can be found here once you know your carbs exact model number.
A troubleshooting guide for these carbs is included in the first pdf file, look it over maybe and see what you think. Post back maybe later after going to school (doesn't hurt to learn how they work). We will be here. I know you want to use this machine (its the growing season) but there are so many things that can be wrong that it needs to be narrowed down...sounds like fuel starvation and just may need to clean the inside of the carb with something like the brake parts cleaner spray. It is non-flammable and doesn't damage the sensitive parts inside these carburetors the way ehanol and harsh carb/chokle sprays and strong solvents due...NEVER soak these carbs in a "Gunk style" carb cleaning will seriously damage sensitive internal parts and check valves!

My Troy-Bilt TB70SS starts fine, but it will only rotate the spool if it`s in half choke. If i put it on run it stops rotating.

Hey... I have the same problem. It will start if I put in on #1, then it will continue to run if I put it on #2... but will eventually stop. It likes to idle between #1 and #2... but it will not run full power on any speed. Relativey brand new. Piece of junk and I will never buy a Troy Built anything even again!

Sorry I could not help with your problem. I can usually fix anything, but this thing is a piece of ****!

Weed eater won't run

Sounds like you may just have a dirty carburetor.

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to seedaylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (,to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

The fuel to oil ratio your using may be wrong. The usual mix to 40 parts of gas to 1 part oil. This works to be about 1 1/4 gallons of gas to 3.2 fl. oz of 2 cycle oil.
You should also clean the air filter on the trimmer.

Troy-Built TB70SS, 1 year old, will not start even after carb cleaning

check to see that the kill button is not stuck in the contacting position, and if it is, try to get it unstuck. WD40 should help. if it's not, then disconnect the kill wires. now try starting it. if it still doesnt start, then the spark generator is bad. if this is the case, you'll need a new trimmer, or have a small engine mechanic replace the generator. i think its called the coil, not sure at the moment it's 4:00 am for me. anyways, whichever is cheaper is best choice.

Weedeater starsts and ildes won't run or accerate

It sems to me like your engine chokes itself on a too rich fuel mix, a clogged air filter may cause this condition. Of course there is always the possibility of a needed carburetor adjustment but I would definitely check the air filter first if this machine used to work fine.

I have a Troy Bilt weed eater and am having a problem. It starts with the choke on, but it will not run with the choke off.

Ths problem is possibly indicating the need for a new fuel pump diaghram in the Zama carburetor. A carb rebuild kit installed correctly should alleviate this problem and greatly improve throttle response on the unit. The ethanol in the fuel nowadays plays havoc on carb parts and they become less flexible and more brittle, thus affecting performance and leading to problems with throttle response and carburetor functions such as this.
