Question about Singer CG590 Mechanical Sewing Machine

On my CG 590 C Singer machine, the bobbin winder has become loose, and it sounds like there is a loose screw or something in the handwheel.

e-Guru, thank you for your quick reply!
However, I was not talking about the horizontal spool pin and holder at the back.

The bobbin was being wound on the front bobbin winder, as per the directions of the manual (not while sewing!). The bobbin winder sounded different after I wound a 3rd bobbin. I cut the thread, moved the spindle left and took off the bobbin after it had finished filling and had stopped. When I clicked the hand wheel back into place, I heard a rattling noise and then noticed that the bobbin winder is not firmly attached as previously--rattling loosely not connected to anything inside the machine. The directions I was following are on p. 18 of the CG 590 Singer manual. The spindle is loose and there is something rattling inside the hand wheel.

I look forward to your expertise once more.

    Hi!

We have not heard back from Expert #1, and we hope that you can view our added comment to him and resolve our loose bobbin winder problem.

    Thank you!

Thanks, but unfortunately, you are not describing the BOBBIN WINDER which is at the top right hand of the CG 590 C. This is nothing to do with the bobbin case which is near the presser foot, needle and holder.
Check the diagram of parts for the CG 590 C and you will see the named part that we have a problem with.

  • Lets readjust the boin case
  1. Raise presser foot and needle.
  2. Open slide plate, remove bobbin and remove needle plate.
  • Now to remove the bobin case.
  1. With a small screwdriver, turn bobbin case holder to the rear as far as it will go.
  2. Lifting the left side of the bobbin case, slide it out from machine.
  • Now to replace the bibin case.
  1. Guide forked end of bobbin case under feed .
  2. Draw rim of bobbin case under position plate . Be sure bobbin case is freely seated on hook race.
  3. Turn bobbin case holder forward as far as it will go, locking bobbin case in place.
  • Note
Turn hand wheel towards you to check to make sure it is properly replaced. Replace needle plate. Insert bobbin and close slide plate.

    • I see the Bobin Winder. I was not privy to any of your comment to the previous tech until after I posted the first time. I could only see the first question. I have the manual.

    • So now you have to remove the top off the sewing machine and have a look. Sounds like the shaft came loose or broke.

    • Should just be a couple of screws to remove to gain access to the top.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

The main spool pin cannot be used to wind the bobbin while sewing. With this machine, you can use the supplemental spool pin to wind the bobbin while sewing using the main spool pin. There is no screw to be loose there. I am also providing the detailed bobbin diagram which will explain how the bobbin works and what are the parts which it is made of.

Please let me know if you stil need further explaination on the bobbin.

Thank You

What should the tension be on for this machine?

Most of the time if the bobbin thread is coming through on top it means that the bobbin thread is too loose and/or the top thread is too tight and is pulling the thread too much. check and make sure that there isn't anything in the top tensioner that could be increasing the tension like lint. Good luck.

I just received a new Singer CG-590. Have threaded the machine and bobbin. Each time I try to pick up the bobbin thread, the top thread wraps around the bobbin case. It will not pick up the bobbin...

try turning the bobbin the opposite way, and if that doesn't help then take the machine back and get another one, maybe even a different model

The hand wheel just stays put while the inside of the machine seems to be moving, like something is slipping.

Move the bobbin winder to LEFT. Sounds to me like you didn't re-set after winding a bobbin.
Hope this helps!
