SOURCE: Playstation 3 hard drive problem

hi mate, your hd is broke, you could phone sony if its under warranty and they should replace it, or you can upgrade your hd to a 250 gb one, its very simple to do and the price of the unit is about 40 pound or about 80 dollars. Seagate is the best make to use, just google it.

SOURCE: Can't detect an external Hard drive (Maxtor 1TB)

go to your admin tools and go to the device manager and look into the storage section and if you "see" your 1TB maxtor drive right click and make sure its active/enabled (sorry if my terminology is off im going of memory) i bought one and had some issues getting my PC's to recognize it till i did that and viola it worked fine (after a 3 hour format) but i thought i had one of the wonderous D.O.A HD's from maxtor (lots of bad reviews out ther right now)

When I turn on my playstation 3 it says that it is restoring and then goes to a black screen, any ideas

I think that you may have a problem with either the system files or the HDD. Here are some steps to try before sending the PS3 Back in
First try:
1. Access safe mode with instructions from this link Safe Mode on PS3
2. From safe mode, click restore default settings.
3. If this doesn't work, go back to safe mode and click restore filesystem. If this doesn't work, go back and click the next option down. Stop at restore.
Second: (You will need some supplies)
1. Follow this until you get to the bold letters saying "Update Procedure"
PlayStation3 PC System Software Update Method PlayStation
2. Go back into safe mode and click "System Update"
3. Plug in your USB stick
IF ALL ELSE FAILS:
You need to replace the hard drive. Here are sony's official instructions:
Upgrade the Hard Disk Drive HDD
Make sure you use a PS3 compatible hard drive! (Listed in the above article)

My Pleomax external hard drive stopped working on my MacBook (OS Maverick). It worked for one day and that was it. It flashes green and red when connected.

Probably not an issue with the MacBook but with the Pleomax drive. Be sure the drive is getting enough power to begin with. If it came with a 2 headed USB cable be sure to connect BOTH USB connectors to the Mac. You may also want to try the drive while your COMPUTER is plugged in and charging. Laptops and external drives don't always get along due to power differences and specifically laptops who do not want to waste their battery power on an external drive. If all else fails, try the drive on another computer just to make sure it is a drive problem and then contact the manufacturer for a repalcement drive.

HI,
Things You'll Need:

* PlayStation 3
* External hard drive

Unplug any external hard drive that may be attached to the PS3.

Restart the PS3, including unplugging it and plugging it into the power supply again.

Format the file you are trying to save to be less than 2 GB in size. The main reason you are getting this error (game will not save) is due to the large file you tried to save.

Connect the external hard drive to your PS3 again and save the file. The error should not occur again.

See if it will turn on with the hard drive out? If still nothing it is probably the power supply. You can probably find a replacement online. Good Luck.

Hello. If the hard drive will not reformat inside the PS3 when you press X, then you will need to remove it and reformat it on a PC using an external device or replace the hard drive. Thanks.
