Question about Pondmaster Impeller & Magnet for Pond - Mag 50
Probably. As long as the motor is obviously turning and operating correctly. A dry impeller will burn up and lose it's seal along the interior of the pump housing.

Sounds like you have a broke impeller or the bearings in the motor are bad. Clean it out real good and wash off the impeller and fill with fresh water and try it again allot of times the float will get stuck and the pump will over heat destroying the sealed bearings in the shaft between the pump and impeller this pump uses water to cool the bearings so if it has been dry running you will need to replace the pump.
