Question about Bernina BERNETTE 65 Mechanical Sewing Machine

My bernette 65 is stuck on reverse stitch. I have checked that it is not the button hole setting. I just had it serviced to get this fixed too and now its playing up again. Any ideas?

Take it straight back to the shop then, sounds like the fault has not been corrected.

In most cases Laurie, with decorative stitches selected some machines can't sew in reverse. Your stitch length is too long or too short to make the decorative stitches sew correctly. So many things could be wrong. I'd need more info to get you going again.

Is there a way to do a manual buttonhole on a Bernette 65 since I so not have an automatic buttonhole foot

all sewing machines can make manual buttonholes. when the machine is adjustable stitch length, stitch width and needle position.

stitch length should be short.
stitch width to be set en route between 2 and 5 at the ends.
needle position must also be set on the way

you have to try and make some test before you get it right
good Luck ;)

since the sewing machine was given to you, it might be a good idea to have the sewing machine serviced to see if there is a problem with the reverse and stitch setting.

My Bernina Bernette 65 has a problem with the thread bunching up every 10-15 stiches on the bottom. Some of the thread stitches on the bottom of the fabric are in a straight line, and then the thread will...

try a new needle--one that is for the fabric being sewed
then try to adjust the top thread tension again, if the stitches remain loose and the tension won't adjust then the tension knob needs to be checked to see if there is something wrong with it.
also check to make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, if the bobbin is not turned the right way in the bobbin case the sewing machine will not stitch correctly.

Bernina Bernett 55 is stuck in reverse

make sure it's not in the buttonhole setting, and if the machine
isn't in the buttonhole setting and the buttonhole lever isn't down
then it would be a good idea to have the machine checked to see
why the machine ins stuck in reverse.

I have a Bernette 65 and when I sew, the stitch is loose and sometimes loopy on one side. The stitches are crooked on one side and the other side they are loose and the understitch is visible. What do I...

check the thread tension
check the needle to make sure it's the right one for the thread
to check the needle to if it's work with the thread
here's how to check
cut a 8 inch piece of the thread your going to use for the project, take the needle your going to use out of the machine or package, & insert the 6-8 inch thread into the eye of needle
& lift on side of the thread up to a 45 degree angle & if needle is the right size needle for the thread, it will side down the thread easily,,but if it hangs up you need a needle 1 size larger

I have a very old viking - feed dog problem

The older 6XXX series are the best machines Viking ever made. But they have one flaw - if the button hole mechanism is not regularly serviced and used, it will eventually stick and the machine will only sew in reverse. This can also happen if you turn the knob backwards when in button hole mode.

I always tell my customers to make a few button holes every time they use the machine. This helps to keep the mechanism free and working between servicing.

Unfortunately the fix is not a DIY consumer project. It requires knowledge and expertise in disassembling the machine and re-aligning the parts. Expect to pay anywhere from $25 to $75 in addition to the regular servicing fee.

Bernina 1630 problem

Your feed dogs sound like they are getting stuck, chec whether they are on the down position, and also make sure that you have cleaned any lint that builds up in the bobbin area, if all fails it will have to go into the technician,
