Yes there is, go to "makitausa.com" and with your model number you can download a breakdown for these tools. There is a plastic cap that snaps on the pin, you will have to replace the cap also but after removing the gear housing you pry the cap off and them remove the lock pin. Clean the area on top before reinstalling. Let me know if you need more assistance and I would need the model numbers so I can give you part number.

Disc removal

The button does not disengage the blade, it only locks the blade/motor from spinning so you can remove the locking nut. Lock the spindle/motor/ blade, from moving and then remove the locking nut or disk. Should be counter-clockwise.

Can not remove the large spiral bevel gear

The large spiral gear is pressed tightly on the spindle then held in place by a wave washer and retaining ring. After removing the retaining ring and washer, you have to use a press to push the spindle out of the gear.

Replacing the gear on makita angle grinder

Are you replacing both gears? The armature gear (pinion) is usually held on with a nut or else is pressed on. The spindle gear is also pressed on. Most spindle gears will come as an assembly with the gear and spindle and housing all together.

If yours doesn't, then the spindle will need to be pressed out of the housing, and then the gear pressed off of the spindle. (Always replace the grease as well when replacing gears.)

How do I replace the big gear on a makita 9557nb grinder

After taking the bearig box off the head, remove the retaining ring and wave washer on top of the gear. Some spindles can be tapped out of the gear with a hammer but be extremely careful not to mushroom the spindle head. It's best to take it off with a hydraulic press. There is a woodruff key in there so be careful not to loose that when you press the spindle out of the gear. The new gear should be pressed back on also.

Can't get nut off to change blade can I dissassemble from back?

Probably not, Remember the nut is a reverse thread. Your best bet it to try some penetrating fluid or try tapping the nut with a screwdriver, hopefully the vibration will help loosen it. Another trick that sometimes works if the machine has a diamond blade or an abrasive wheel with some life left on it is to put on a pair of heavy duty work gloves. Lock the arbor and try to grab the wheel tight and try to spin the wheel loose with your hand. Don't forget to unplug the machine before attempting to remove the wheel.

I don't know how to change the grinding blade on my makita angle grinder.

There is a nut that you release from the middle of the grinder wheel, (grinder blade)
This nut is flat and has four holes in it.

You will see you are providing a spanner wrench to remove this nut. The wrenches' actual name is Lock Nut Wrench. It has a U shaped end with two pins sticking out. On on each side of the U shape.

The pins are inserted into the holes in the flat lock nut, located in the middle of the grinding wheel. The wrench is laid flat against the grinding wheel, with the two pins of the wrench going into any two holes of the nut.

At the top of the Makita grinder you will see a Black button. The button is pushed down to keep the grinding wheel from spinning. Holds the grinding wheel in place, as you turn the lock nut loose. When you release the button, a spring inside pushes the button back up out of the way.

As you view the Makita grinder, Release Button towards the Back, grinding wheel towards you, the nut is turned to the LEFT, to loosen. It is a Left threaded nut.

The grinding wheel spins to the Right. Using a left threaded nut insures that the nut will stay tight, due to the direction the grinding wheel spins.

How do you change the grinder disk. I have the tool with the two pronges that slide into the nut but the wheel keeps spinning. There must be a trick?

On the top of the grinder there should be a button. hold that in while turning the disk (please have the grinder unplugged while you do this).
The button wil drop further in when it finds the notch in the gear. This will lock the spindle, allowing you to remove the retaining nut.

Changing the disc

There are two methods in changing a disk.
somewhere on the machine you will see an arrow showing you
the direction the disk travels when being used, the nut that holds the disk
on always undoes opposite to this.

normal method

unplug grinder, use the 2 spanners supplied with the grinder.
one will look like a normal spanner but thinner, this goes on the nut over the disk.
the other spanner has 2 nodules which fit in the holes on the nut under disk.
whilst holding the disk stationary with the thin spanner, rotate the noduled spanner
in the oposite direction to the disk rotation when being used.
on some models of grinder, a button on top of the grinder must be
pressed in, this stops the rotation of the disk when replacing disk.
This button performs the same function as the flat spanner.

emergency method

If you cannot find or have lost special spanner(s)
pushing the palm of your hand firmly onto the disk surface and rotating
the disk with a sudden **** in the opposite direction to that when being used
may loosen the nut. if the nut is tight hold the disk firmly and use an old
screwdriver in one of the holes and tap nut loose with a hammer on screwdriver.
last resort........if possible break the disk using pliers and remove all pieces.

putting a new disk on is opposite to method that you used to remove one.
