Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a Dometic Penguin AC Heat Pump (Model# 630516) that is leaking a little water inside after the AC runs for several hours. I am trying to take the air distribution box (Model# 3310742) off to see where the water is coming from. I can take 4 screws out but the ADB is still tight against the ceiling. It doesn't want to slide forward or aft and I don't want to break it by pushing too hard. Whats the proper way of removing this?

SOURCE: I have a rooftop dometic A/C With heat strip. Unit

First thing I need to ask is , are you sure, it has the strip, or coil, and did it work before? Did you actually remove ceiling cover and see it in there? The reason I ask is that it is very common for someone to tell you it has it, but it actually has the option, but no coil installed, or lower control box is wrong one. Also, once that's confirmed, could you give me the model #'s off the base of the upper unit, as well as the numbers on the control box?
Obviously the cover inside will need to be removed to do all this.

SOURCE: My 1990 Penguin unit has a leak. Can it be fixed?

Leaks can be repaired, some quite easily and others while difficult to find - and get to - prove somewhat more difficult.

The problem with 'leaks' is sometimes they are 'high pressure leaks' which are some of the more difficult ones to find.

So... the answer to your question is yes - but.

I would try and get a very experienced Service Tech to fix the leak, and one who will stand behind his work.

good luck!

AS I SAID BEFORE my problem is not ac connection its the 2 blue ,,2yellow and one red and one black..where to connection these color wires..coming out from the roof top unit. My unit is Dometic Penguin...

Unfortunately I have no access to any previous information you received from other experts, but I will tell you that without knowing which ceiling assembly/control box, thermostat etc., that you are using, the most I can do is tell you this.
Blue wire is for the compressor circuit.
Black wire is for high fan .
Yellow wire is not used, unless for heat pump circuit reversing valve.
Red wire is for low fan.
White is the common AC connection.
Green/yellow striped is for ground to chassis.

We have the Penguin 630515 with the heat pump ..we get a strong musty odor when we use the heat pump or the AC... we have sprayed Lysol into all the duct work and still have it. We have had the roof...

There is a condensate tray under the coil. There should also be a drain hose or port that could be clogged. Take off top of AC unit and pour a 10% solution of bleach and water over coil, follow flow of water to drain and make sure it is working. Pour a very small amount first otherwise you will have water everywhere.

Your choices are another Dometic or a Coleman
I prefer the Coleman But the amount of extra cooling you will get by stepping up to a 15K unit will probability not be worth the added cost

Dometic air conditioner blowing cool air

When the cooling slows down, but water is still running off, usually something is icing up. You can turn the unit off, and let it thaw, and try again. Sometimes, if the humidity is high, this is more pronounced. It sounds like you are low on refrigerant. That implies that you have a slight leak. You should have the unit serviced, and the leak repaired.

A/C switching to heat

I have the same problem, it may cool for 1 min or 5 min then go to heat mode. Once it goes to heat mode only way to reset is to shut the AC down and let it cool. It may or amy not work the next time.
