SOURCE: Brother MFC-465CN wont print
I had a similar problem, and it was due to the IP address not being properly set during installation. (Note, I installed it as a network printer. If you installed it as a USB printer, this won't work) Try this:
Select Start->Printers & Faxes, a window comes up, hopefully your Brother printer is one of the printers.
Right-click on the printer icon and select properties
Select the "Port" tab in the window that comes up
One of the entries should say "Standard TCP/IP Port". Click on that entry and click the "Configure Port..." button, a window will come up.
In the "Printer name or IP address" field, you may have a name here instead of an IP address. (Mine was "BRN008077E21669") Change this to the IP address for your printer. You can get this by navigating the menu on the printer (Under LAN->TCP/IP). I changed mine to 192.168.1.80, since that's the address I configured my printer for.
Hit OK and Apply in the open windows and hopefully you wil be in business. Good Luck!

there are no instructions that you would understand and once the print head is clogged up, you can noy mannually clean it , it has to be replaced! sounds like you are using generic ink!

My guess is a driver problem. I'm assuming you can print to it, so you know the USB connection is good. And you can make a copy (I assume), so you know the scanner mechanism and its connection with the rest of the machine works.
The scanner driver is separate from the printer driver. It's entirely possible to install and use the printer without having loaded the scanner driver. Best bet is to unplug the unit from your computer, then uninstall it completely from Windows. There may be an Uninstall program listed under Brother in your Start menu...All Programs... Or go to Start...Settings...Control Panel (or however your version of Windows get there) and open your Scanners and Cameras folder. If you find the Brother machine in there, Select it and click Remove. Do the same in the Printers folder.
Don't plug your machine back in until you have reinstalled the drivers. Go to www.brother-usa.com, and in the Service & Support box on the right, click Downloads. That will take you to a page where you'll select Multi-Function as your Product Group, then the model.
You'll get two lists of links. Forget Manuals, look at Drivers on the right.
Under Type of Software, click ALL. Select your OS.
Look for Setup.exe in the main directory, or you may need to browse folders labeled with different language abbreviations to find it.
Start the installation, and don't plug your USB cable in until the computer tells you to. it will install the printer first, then return to install the scanner. It may require you to restart Windows more than once. Sorry.
Once you've suffered through all that it should be fine.

i had the same issue - was previously able to scan to a number of different formats, then switched modems, providers and then only the scan to ftp option came up.
took me about an hour to figure out the solution, but now it works
for windows users: * go to your control panel * go to the scanners & cameras section * your printer/scanner should show up here * right click on it and select 'properties' * select the network settings tab and then -- enter in the correct ip address here OR -- specify your machine by name (enter in name here)
hope this helps!
