I presume a TV is involved. Have you looked at the manuals? We can't assume you have. Nor can we assess how you have things connected.

Audio and video can be carried on separate media (wires). Your Marantz requires some setup to assign audio sources to specific inputs. It's in the manual.

I would advise sourcing the TV-related audio directly from the (probable) Cable Box to the Marantz.

A loud hum is usually from an earth problem (in fact 'not earthed')
So your best bet seems to try the 2nd pre-amp again, and see if there is a pin or connector for an earth link. Mine earths to the chassis of my main amp.

Marrantz sr4002 blinking stand-by button

If you've checked all your speaker connections and there is no short, reset the amp by holding down the "S. Speaker B", "ATT", and "EXIT" buttons for three seconds.

Hi, My home system has been working fine, but last week suddently i am not able to get any sounds when i am using my dvd player. The sound system works when I am watching Cable? Jan

Lacking specific connection details. Check the cables, settings (digital vs analog) and assignment of the digital input that accepts the unidentified DVD player. Check the settings within the DVD player. SWAP the DVD player's cable to another input and see what happens.

I recently bought a NR1501 receiver and a CD5004 CD player at the same time. I don't use the tuner as I have a separate DAB radio. I use the Aux2 source for the radio input and the CD source for the CD...

How did you isolate it to the CD player?

Of course you know that this fault lies in the realm of the Twilight Zone as no 'intelligence' or commands are exchanged between the units via their RCA cables.

I'd try to eliminate the posibility that erroneous remote control commands are getting into the receiver from somewhere, either your own remotes or some other I/R source. Block the I/R sensor on the receiver and see if it switches spontaneously. You may haved a rogue I/R source in the room.

Do not allow direct sunlight, an inverter fluorescent light or other strong source of light to shine onto the player's infrared receptor window. Otherwise, the operation of the remote controller may be disabled.

• Bear in mind that operating the remote controller may cause other devices operated by infrared rays to be operated by mistake.

• The remote controller cannot be operated if the space between the controller and the player's infrared receptor window is obstructed.

• Do not place any objects on top of the remote controller.

Doing so may cause one or more buttons to be held down which will cause the batteries to run down.
