Question about Martin Strings 24CTSG Thinline 332 Acoustic Guitar Pickup

1 Answer

I have a Thinline pickup in my 1924 0-28, because unfortunately nothing else is slim enough to do the job. I took it out of the guitar years ago after it failed onstage, and now I've decided to give it anothertry I have an overwhelmingt chronic earth-frequency hum. I'd rather repair than replace if possible as they're definitely not cheap here in New Zealand! What should I do?

Probably the ground wire is broken on this either at the jack or very near the end of th pickup stick. This acts like a condenser microphone and is fairly high impedance so any break in the ground will pickup hum. Using a high impedance guitar cable is necessary.

More in likely it is, although I owned one years ago that I changed the pickup in, to make a good sounding travel guitar, so you could check the wiring to see if it looks original and not tampered with?
really hope that helps?

I pressume that martin thinline preamp pick up has two pick ups ?

your pressumption would be correct. The Thinline 332 runs under the bridge saddle, and the Piezo is attached ti the inside of the guitar body, tilt your guitar and have a look inside, you may be able to see it.

Bussing sound comes out the tube, even when it it connected correctly

Make sure you have the correct power adapter, not a substitute. Make sure your guitar is outputing enough... You LIKELY will need a guitar that has a preamp in the guitar, (not a passive pickup guitar). This device is nothing more than a small amp that drives a speaker which the sound travels up the hose. If your guitar creates a buzzing noise, then this device will do that too... Plug a set of headphones directely into your guitar to verify the sound is clean... NOTE, only one side of headphone will have guitar in it if the headphones are stereo type.
