Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a laptop Dell Latitude E5400. I have installed almost every Windows 7 disk available for this computer. Each time I install - update - install drivers or just use it for a while. A white screen, that appears to be a shell of some kind appears, complete with a slider track on the right side (without a slider). I can't shrink it or move it, "alt + ctrl + del" does not function. The only option is to force shut-down with the switch or unplug it and remove the battery. I have flashed the BIOS. O.K. there's that. Also I can start it in safe mode sometimes without the shell and at other times it has the shell in safe mode (at which time safe mode is useless). The last install was with Dell Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (which is the only version that has driver availability and support on dell web site). I installed the first two or three automatic updates - no problem. I installed various drivers - no problem. I installed the touch-pad driver - BIG problem (the white enemy screen appears). After an entire week, on and off, hours at a time, I have reached my rope's end. I don't have a clue where to turn from here. If anyone out there has a clue, suggestion, or big hammer please send info to prevent full-on insanity. insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. HELP!

SOURCE: i cannot reformat my pc windows xp,there's an error

If you are getting an error during installation its not good :(

Its prob either yor ram or hard drive faulty. Download memtest and test ram 1st as thats the most likely cause. Check that optimised defaults are loaded in bios also.

The Blue Screen of Death. Yes, I have had it many times. You can try to restart the computer using the F8 to enter safe mode. Then shutdown and restart. This usually happens when a file has been corrupted, normally by a virus or improper shutdown. If this doesn't repair the problem your left with trying to re-install the OS to fix the bad file. If yo can't get to safe mode your only option is trying to re-install the OS. If you see an option to install or repair choose repair to get the machine back up. I saw this a lot with ME, if you have Windows ME, get Windows XP and upgrade since Windows ME has so many bugs that XP would be a much better option.

SOURCE: I have installed S&T 2008

My friend, did you upgrade the computer or did it come with Win 7? If it came with 7, skip to the next paragraph. Is your computer Windows 7 friendly? Did you do the test available at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=windows+7+compatibility+test&aq=1&aql=&aqi=g10&oq=windows+7+com?

There is a listing of compatable software at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx If your software is on the list, you have a fixable problem. If your software is not on the list, you will have to get a fix from whoever makes S&T.

Please review my response and lets see if we can get this going for you.

SOURCE: I'm trying to upgrade from 64-bit Vista to 64 bit

Regarding the concern, please make sure that you are trying to install 64 bit of Windows 7 and not 32 bit of Windows 7.

It is not possible to install 64 bit Windows 7 on a 32 bit Windows Vista and same goes for 32 bit Windows 7 on 64 bit Vista.

Let me know if you need any further help.

I do not have the username and password for my new Dell latitude 2120

There are 3 ways for you to reset Dell Latitude password. Let's specify them in 3 parts.

Part 1: Using a Password Reset Disk

When you create Windows user accounts for your Dell Latitude, you can also create a password reset disk at the same time with a USB flash drive or a floppy disk to reset forgotten password afterwards, which means you have to make this tool before you forgot Dell Latitude password. Meanwhile, this password reset disk can reset only local user account password. If you want to unlock dell latitude without password or disk, or your Dell Latitude is on a domain, please refer to Part 3.

Part 2: Reinstalling Windows System

If you have no password reset disk, Dell Latitude will suggest you to reinstall Windows system when you forgot password. However, the cost of reinstallation is huge because all your settings and data in C drive will be lost. If you don't want to lose resources on your Dell Latitude laptop, try the following method.

Part 3: Using Dell Latitude Password Reset (Reset Password without Disk)

If you want to unlock Dell Latitude (d620) without password or disk, Windows Password Recovery (Windows Password Recovery Tool) will be your best choice to access Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP adminitrator in dell . It is specially designed to reset any local or domain account password without system reinstallation when you forgot password and can't log into Windows OS on Dell Latitude laptop. Here is the example of Dell Latitude admin (administrator) password reset. What you need is just a USB flash drive or a blank CD/DVD and an available computer.
Note: The steps to reset other user account password (no matter whether it is a local or a domain one) are the same.
  • Step 1: Download and install Dell Latitude Password Reset on the available computer.
  • Step 2: Insert a USB flash drive or a blank CD/DVD on the computer, specify the burning device, and click "Burn".
  • Step 3: Click "Yes" and "OK" button in the pop-up windows.
  • Step 4: Insert the newly created USB flash drive or CD/DVD on your Dell Latitude and reboot it. Select the Windows installation you want to reset the password, choose "Reset your password" and click "Next".
  • Step 5: Select the administrator account, choose "Remove the password" and click "Next". In the pop-up window, click "Reboot".
