Cannot remove ink cartridge

If the printer is out of ink in one or more cartridges (the ink light is steady), then with the printer on, lift the scanner unit and use the support to prop it up. Press the Stop button and the (first) empty cartridge will line up with the No Ink symbol on the printer. Press Stop again and the next empty cartridge will be moved to this symbol. Continue to press Stop until the cartridge carrier moves to the ink replacement position (depends on how many cartridges are empty). This is on the right side of the printer. Wait for the cartridge carrier to stop moving. Do not touch the white cable while changing the ink.

Next remove the first ink cartridge by pressing the two tabs towards the center of cartridge and pulling it straight up. (One tab is close to you and the other is closest to the printer.) Take your new cartridge for the slot and shake it four or five times. Then remove the cartridge from the package. Do not touch the green chip. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the cartridge. Next rotate the cartridge so that the nozzle is down and facing towards the inside of the printer. Then push it straight down into the slot until it snaps into place. Repeat these steps for the rest of the empty cartridges.

Once all of the empty cartridges have been replaced, lift the scanner unit and push the support to fold it. Close the scanner unit. Press Stop to start charging the ink system. Wait until the Power light stops flashing and remains on before turning off the printer or sending a print job to the unit.

If the Ink light continues to flash, open the scanner unit and press Stop. Press down on the cartridges to make sure that they are completely seated in the cartridge carrier.

If the ink out light is flashing or not lit, you need to use the Epson Utility to change the ink. This is part of the full software from Epson. For Windows right click on the printer icon in the taskbar (bottom right of the screen). Then select Printer Settings and click on the Maintenance tab. For a Mac, open the Applications folder and open Epson Printer Utility 3. Select your printer (if you have several Epson printers listed). Then click OK. (You will need to launch the utility before you open the scanner unit.)

Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. You must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones. Caution: Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability. Note: Leave the expended cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement, or the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out. 1. Turn on your printer. 2. If an ink cartridge is expended, the error and ink lights on the control panel stay on. 3. Open the document cover, then open the ink cover. Caution: Do not remove the ink cartridge guard or you may damage the printer.24 Maintaining Your Printer 4. Press the y Stop button. If a cartridge is low or expended, the print head moves that cartridge to the replacement position to indicate that it should be replaced. The P Power light starts flashing. If no cartridges are low or expended, the print head does not move. Note: Do not hold the y Stop button for more than three seconds, or the printer may start cleaning the print head. 5. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it up. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Then remove the cartridge from the package. Caution: Do not touch the green chip on the front of the cartridge. This can damage the ink cartridge. 7. Insert the new ink cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place. 9. Press the y Stop button. If another cartridge is low or expended, it moves to the replacement position. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to replace any other cartridges that need to be replaced. When you press the y Stop button and no other cartridges need to be replaced, the print head moves to its home position and the printer starts priming the ink. This takes about 1 1/2 minutes.26 Maintaining Your Printer When the P Power light stops flashing and the error and ink lights go out, ink charging is finished. 10. Close the ink cover, then close the document cover. Caution: Never turn off the your Epson printer while ink is charging or you'll waste ink. If the error and ink lights remain on after the print head moves into its home position, an ink cartridge may not be installed properly. Press the y Stop button again, and then press the ink cartridge down securely. Note: If you replaced a cartridge while copying a document or photo, cancel printing and make sure your original is still placed correctly on the document table. Then copy your original again. If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge, you cannot reinstall and use the cartridge.

Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start replacing a cartridge you must complete all steps in one session.

1. Make sure the Epson CX printer is on.
2 Make sure the document cover is closed, then open the scanner
Caution: Do Not open the scanner when the document cover cover is open.
3. Press and release the " ink " button. The ink cartridge moves to the check position and the
" On " and " ink " lights flash. If one of the cartridges is low or empty, the printer moves the
cartridge to the _ink out mark.
Note: Don't hold down the " ink " button for 3 or more seconds or the printer starts cleaning the print head.
Caution: Do Not move the print head by hand; this may damage the printer, always press the ink
button to move it.
4. Press the " ink " button again
a. If more than one cartridge is low or empty, the next cartridge moves to the_ink out position.
b. If all of the empty or low cartridges have been identified, the print head moves to the ink
cartridge replacement position.
5. Open the cartridge cover.
6. Squeeze the tab at the back of the empty/low cartridge and lift it straight out.
7. Before you open the new ink cartridge package shake it four or five times, then remove it
from the package.
Caution: Do Not remove or tear the label on the cartridge; otherwise ink will leak.
Do Not touch the green chip on the front of the cartridge, this can damage the
ink cartridge.
8. Place the new ink cartridge into the cartridge holder and push it down until it snaps into
place.
a. Replace any other cartridges that need to be replaced.
9. Close the ink cartridge cover and press it until it clicks into place.
10.Close the scanner.
11. Press the " ink " button The print starts charging ink and the " On " light starts flashing. This
takes about one minute. When it's finished the " On " light stops flashing and remains on.
and the " ink " light goes out.
Caution: Never turn off the printer while the " On " light is flashing or you'll waste ink.
Note: If the " ink " light stays on ( not flashing ), the ink cartridge may not be installed correctly.
Press the " ink " button again and reinstall the ink cartridge until it clicks into place.

Each ink cartridge has an expiration date to protect the printing system and ensure good ink quality. The cartridge expire date appears on line 53 of the self test report.Printing can continue without replacing the ink cartridge. Follow the instructions that appear on the HP product or on the computer. However, HP recommends replacing the expired ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of expired ink cartridges. Service or repairs required as a result of using expired ink are not covered under warranty
As the printer operates, it moves ink from the ink cartridges into a printhead reservoir. The printer does not deliver a message when an ink cartridge goes empty, because it still has ink in the reservoir. The printer continues printing until the ink level in the reservoir falls to a first trigger point - then a message appears advising the printer owner to Replace Cartridges Soon . At this point, other cartridges that are empty but have not reached the trigger point are also mentioned in the message, to save trips to the retailer. After the first trigger point, the printer can continue printing until ink levels in the reservoir reach a second trigger point. At the second trigger point there is only enough ink left to perform vital servicing tasks, and a new message appears, saying Ink Cartridges Empty . The options offered depend on the usable inks remaining. If no options are offered, the cartridges indicated must be replaced before printing can continue. Reset the product

1. Without turning off the product, disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product. NOTE: The USB cable connects to the port on the back of the product. The port is labeled with the USB icon ( ).
2. Remove the cartridges from the product.
3. Wait for the 'Insert Cartridges ' message to display on the control panel.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
5. Wait 60 seconds.
6. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button .
7. Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.
8. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
9. Reconnect the USB cable to the rear of the product, and then try printing again.

When you moved the original chip to the new cartridge, the chip is saying the cartridge is empty. Try removing the chip and the printer should know the cartridge is not empty, but might give you a message that it is not a genuine Canon cartridge.

From FixYa, give this a try:

Lift up the scanner bed (top part) of the printer to expose the cartridges.

Push the red triangle button once. Wait for the cartridge carrier to move to the middle. On the housing of the printer (the non-moving part), there is an arrow that will point to the empty cartridge.

Push the red triangle button again to see if the next cartridge is empty. Repeat this step, noting which cartridges are empty, until the cartridge carrier moves to the right. Now you can replace each cartridge that is empty.

After replacing the empty cartridges, push the red triangle button again, and the carrier will begin moving back and forth (cleaning itself). Once it stops, it should be positioned on the far right side.

Lower the scanner bed to "close" the printer. The ink light should go off and you should be able to print.

Turn unit off first and unplug it from power supply, then replug and turn it back on.


1. Make sure your unit is powered and not printing.

2. Press the SETUP button and then use the select arrows until you see REPLACE INK, then press the COLOR COPY button. The ink cartridges will move to the replacement position.

3. Lift up the unit's cover, to access the ink cartridges.

4. Pinch the tabs on the front and back of the cartridge, and lift it out of the printer.

5. Before removing the new cartridge from its package, shake the cartridge 4-5 times. Do not shake the cartridge once it has been removed from the cartridge holder.

6. Lower the new cartridge into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place. Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, as you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

7. Repeat steps 4-6 for any other ink cartridges that require replacement.

8. Once complete, please lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus CX6600 begins charging the ink delivery system.

Once the printer identifies all the empty or low ink cartridges the print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position.
5. Open the cartridge cover, squeeze the tab at the back of the empty cartridge and lift it out.
6. Before you open the new cartridge package shake it four or five times and remove it from the package .
(Don't remove or tear the label on the cartridge otherwise ink will leak out) .
(Don't touch the green chip on the front of the ink cartridge - you could damage the cartridge).
7. Place the new ink cartridge into the cartridge holder and push it down till it clicks into place.
8. Replace any other cartridges that need replacing.
9. Close the ink cartridge cover and press it until it clicks into place.
10. Close the scanner.

open the plastic cover of the printer
turn printer on and press the ink button for 2 -7 seconds (depending of the model) than release it , wait for the cartridge holder to "park" open the holder and remove the cartridge wich was empty by a new one and put the cartridge in the correct place, than close the cartridge holder, than close the cover, press the inkt button once and wait until it is ready
