My Camera is doing the same thing. If anyone is willing to fix it for me. Send me an estimate as well as contact info. The lens comes out on start up but it immediately shuts down after that. I would love to dive into fixing this but don't want to risk further damage. Thanks

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE PERSON WHO CAMERA WILL NOT STAY POWERED ON BUT CAN REVIEW PICTURES. PLEASE THIS IS THE SECOUND CAMERA I BOUGHT THAT DOES THIS . IS IR A DEFECT ?. THANKS FMILLER.

My camera is doing the same thing. Prior to that I never had a problem. If you have this happen, do NOT hit reset, because that will erase all pictures in memory and "review" will no longer work.

This is the real answer, its so simple you might not belive it . Simply install very good alkiline batterys such as DURA CELLS. Worked for me. Good luck FMAN.

We had the same problem when turning on my Sony H1 camera it makes the start-up noise but the lens would not come out, and unable to focus. We took it into a reputable camera repair shop in SF, where we ended up paying over $125 to repair it. The tech said the lenses had come loose. This was in July, now it's Oct and the same thing is happening again. Never dropped it or anything. Is there a way to open up the zoom and reset the lenses ourselves?

I have just started having the same problem - I was surprised to hear so many responses saying it was just a battery problem. I have been using the same recharchable batteries since I got the camera, and they are still recharging almost all the way. Anyway, just to humor the idea, I tried really good different alkaline batteries - still having the same issue. Could this be a gear issue? (I push the power button, it "wants" to open the lens, but doesn't then shuts off...sometimes leaving the lens open and then shuts off)...

How exactly do fresh batteries solve a mechanical problem?

The folks at Sony were totally apathetic when I called and just basically said to fork over $180 for a repair. I don't think so!

Can anyone ofer a technical explanation of the problem? Thanks.

Is it possible to buy this loading motor of the lens mechanism? I'd be willing to try to fix it if I had the part. Seems everywhere wants an average of $180 to fix the camera. I could buy an excellent used one on ebay for about $100.

I just had this same thing happen to me. I had just put in the freshly charged Sony batteries that came with the camera. I tried another user's idea of switching out the batteries (and happened to have some fresh Duracells) and it worked! Thank goodness-I was not looking forward to a $125 repair.

Believe it or not I recharged my batteries that came with the camera again and now the camera is working. Might need to replace my rechargeables. Thanks to all.

When I turn my Sony dsc-hi on it says access then Turn the power off and on again

That is usually due to the lens jamming - the lens needs to be dismantled and repaired / replaced.

I found an online manual for your camera. Page 84 talks about the USB Mode Normal with the 4 dots underneath. It also show a troubleshooting area for this and it is on page 96. Hopefully this will get your camera working right again. Here is the link to the pdf manual. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW1.pdf
